Kimbercat: I have registered for the conference, but didn't see a specific forum registration...is there one?
jlind: welcome avhoshi!
debster: hi avhosi
kellyc: There isn't a specific forum registration....
Kimbercat: hi Arty
avhoshi: how is everyone
Eric: hi
kellyc: You will get to decide on-site what you want to attend.
pamiam: I was told that Alopecia Areata is common for those with psoriasis. I have lost almost all my hair in 8 months plus lashes and brows.
BobO: OK, no forum registration, that's nice
Kimbercat: ok...so the schedules won't be posted until we arrive then?
Eric: what is alopecia
avhoshi: kim i see you letters went out
Katied7040: what hotel?
jlind: is that due to methotrexate, pamiam?
kellyc: The schedule is already posted on our Web site
jlind: some treatments can cause hair loss
avhoshi: i need to sit down friday and do mine
Katied7040: what hotel is closes?
Kimbercat: do we just choose which ones to attend when we get there then?
kellyc: The schedule is set - you just don't have to decide which sessions you want to go to ahead of time.
jlind: the conference is at the U.S. Grant Hotel
makeitgoaway: a friend of mine has alopecia, he looses circles of hair
jlind: with discounted rooms for all attendees
kellyc: You get to pick while you're there...
Kimbercat: ok...thanks
debster: so far they are offering one of the best rates
makeitgoaway: he gets some sort of injections to get the hair back
Katied7040: thanks
Katied7040: do you have the website address?
makeitgoaway: something to do with stress
kellyc: The U.S. Grant is in the heart of downtown San Diego across from Horton Plaza (a major shopping mall) in the GasLamp District
Kimbercat: just wish they had a pool....
jlind: website for the hotel?
Katied7040: yes
kellyc: www.usgrant.net is the Web site for the hotel
BobO: $119/day for a So. Cal downtown deluxe hotel IS actually a bargain
makeitgoaway: they dont have a pool?
debster: I am looking forward to walking around the gaslamp district
Katied7040: thanks
makeitgoaway: ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!1111
pamiam: After I gave birth I just started losing it in handfuls, three months later I started Enbrel. My derm says it is Telogen Effluvium but that is suppose to stop after a few months. P and PA really altered my life but this is unreal. I am afraid that all these automimmune diseases triggered something. I was so happy-now I am a shut in. I am not here to depress you all, just wondering if you knew anyone like me.
Kimbercat: no, but the hotel my mom is at does....we will invade theirs!!
jlind: yes, the gaslamp district has lots of great restaurants, too
jlind: welcome tlight!
BobO: I am sure it has a pool, let me check
Katied7040: how is the fares for airfare?
debster: what hotel are you staying at kim
Kimbercat: already did, Bob
tlight: Hi all
kellyc: The fares depend on where you're flying from
Kimbercat: I will be at The Grant
jlind: by booking now, you'd probably get a decent rate, Katie
Kimbercat: mom is at Hyatt Islandia
makeitgoaway: book now with the rising fuel costs
Kimbercat: with the kids...
jlind: is that nearby, Kim?
jlind: good idea, Steve
kellyc: It's definitely worth it to spend some time doing your research through the various travel Web sites
Kimbercat: sounds like about 20 mins
jlind: we have an agent you can use, but that doesn't guarantee the best fare
Katied7040: im coming from Connecticut
debster: should not be to bad of a drive
avhoshi: i wish i was going to san diego or even washington this year but i will have to make it next
Eric: jet blue from jfk is 169 rt
jlind: her name is under the hotel page, http://www.psoriasis.org/events/2004_sandiego/hotel.php
Kimbercat: try websites for travelocity or the airlines, Katie
Katied7040: wow thats a great fare
makeitgoaway: that is great eric
BobO: No Pool Correctomundo
makeitgoaway: you fly8ing in the luggage dept.?
debster: sorry to hear that avhoshi...will look for ya next year
jlind: but the hotel is near the beach, too
debster: lol
BobO: Lots of beaches tho'
jlind: sun, sand and surf
kellyc: The Foundation's travel agent is Linda Miller and she can be reached at 877.227.3530
debster: do you know how far of a walk it is to the beach from the hotel
Eric: MY mom and cousins flew jet blue for the same price for three of them as I did to portland just two weeks ago
BobO: Yes, tons of beaches to the west hahahaha
Kimbercat: Jen, I got the impression it is a ways to the beach from the hotel
avhoshi: yea..... next year... will the washington trip be next also
makeitgoaway: Jet blue has the best commercials
Eric: Yeah and you don't have to pay to go.
Katied7040: jetblue.com?
Eric: Bobo you have to pay to go to the beach here on the east coast
kellyc: I don't know that the beach is within walking distance
Eric: jetblue.com, I think
makeitgoaway: beach and parking!
kellyc: It should be a short taxi ride, however...
trace: i think the hotel is not far from Balboa Park with zoo , art museum and botanical garden
Kimbercat: I don't believe it is
BobO: Eric - I am a native New Yorker, yes I remember paying to go to the beach
Eric: just messing around steve
avhoshi: has everyone been to san diego
Kimbercat: sounds like we do have to pay parking if I'm not mistaken
jlind: wow -- I can't imagine having to pay for the beach
debster: this will be my first time
Kimbercat: I have many times
makeitgoaway: yes
Katied7040: I havent
Eric: I have beento san diego several times]
trace: first time
Eric: well s. califonian
jlind: Kimbercat, please share your thoughts about the neighborhood with us
kellyc: It looks like it's semi-close to Seaport Village which has some waterfront dining and shops...
BobO: Cat - you are a San Diego fountain of knowledge ?
kellyc: Don't know if there is a beach there, though.
makeitgoaway: they charge us for everything over here
Kimbercat: all I can find is that it is in the middle of downtown
tlight: I can't imagine wanting to go to the beach since having P
avhoshi: i was told san diego's weather is great low humidty 70's all day most of the time
Kimbercat: I used to live in Huntington Beach....1 1/2 hrs north
jlind: why not, tlight?
debster: yea but if your one of those who clears in the sun it would be wonderful
BobO: Yes San Diego's climate is utopian
kellyc: San Diego's weather is fabulous! The ocean provides a nice cooling breeze...
Kimbercat: lots of beaches in the area, but not walking distance
makeitgoaway: kim - i slept on someones couch for a month in huntington beach
kellyc: Should be great while we're there in August!
avhoshi: you pay for everyhing in life unfortunitly
tlight: Way to embarrasing
avhoshi: august should be nice
Kimbercat: you would be welcome at my mom's, Steve
Kimbercat: Mike will be there
debster: buy yourself some of those tan through clothes
jlind: maybe some people can coordinate a beach trip
makeitgoaway: that was the general attitude
kellyc: tlight - the sun and the relaxation should be good for your psoriasis...
debster: I will flaunt my spots if you flaunt yours
BobO: Some of us will be living at the beach hahahaha
Kimbercat: and if we go in groups, we will all be more comfortable
jlind: what's nice about the conference is that shared support
debster: safety in numbers for sure
jlind: that you aren't in it alone
Katied7040: I need to book my trip tomorrow
tlight: I like the beach but the p covers 30 to 40 percent of my body
avhoshi: never travel alone.....
BobO: I am going to forget and wear my snorkel and flippers into the conference hahahaha
avhoshi: lol
jlind: LOL!
Kimbercat: we'll teach the tan and blonde Californians a thing or 2
kellyc: Shared support, education and connection is what helps make the conference such an amazing and uplifting experience!
jlind: Bob, do you give scuba lessons?
debster: well we will get you bare skined bit by slow little bit
tlight: I like that strenght in numbers idea
BobO: Jennifer - just 'buddy breathing' heh
debster: lol
Kimbercat: ....and then there is Black's Beach
jlind: it's really empowering to ask others about how they cope, for example
jlind: especially because people are at different stages of coping
jlind: that's why the conference offers a lot of different topics
kellyc: Most of the workshops are designed to encourage the sharing of ideas...
avhoshi: the water will be great for the p but the first time everyyear always burns
tlight: when and where is the conference?
debster: very true
Kimbercat: sunscreen, Arty, suncreen
jlind: yep, gotta put on some sunscreen
kellyc: The conference is Aug 6-8 in San Diego
jlind: August 6-8
avhoshi: at least for me the salt just gets me
jlind: ditto
debster: LOTS of sunscrean
avhoshi: but it feels good after words and th results arre always good
Kimbercat: I go from white to red...they ran me out of CA
debster: BURNt skin----------------->very bad
jlind: do you do phototherapy, avhoshi?
kellyc: tlight - do you think you are going to be able to make it?
Edr: I have a question about Saturday night: I understand there is no organized on Saturday evening. If four to five hundred people show up at the conference and they need to make their own arrangements for dinner on Saturday, are there enough nearby restaurants that will accomodate large groups? Will the NPF provide a list of such restaurants?
avhoshi: not so much sun screen the salt water on my p
Edr: (Meant to say: organized dinner)
jlind: Ed -- good question about the list
debster: I am so gald you asked that Ed
avhoshi: no
kellyc: We did a search on the number of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and there are well over a hundred
kellyc: Many different tastes and flavors for everyone.
avhoshi: i live in florida so i try to for the most part
tlight: I travel to Ontario CA from time to time so it may work out so that I can attend
debster: wonderful tight
debster: you wont have any regrets thats for sure
avhoshi: but there are certen months in the winter i cant
jlind: are any of you bringing your family?
tlight: I am a newbie but wish that I had found this site years ago
avhoshi: so i would like to get a light
kellyc: The reception on Saturday is designed to ggive people the time to group up with folks they want to chat with and connect more with over dinner in a local San Diego restaurant
debster: my children want to come with me hubby not so sure if he will
avhoshi: i just found this site 6 weeeks ago
kellyc: Welcome to you both!
Kimbercat: my family is coming, Jen
jlind: it's a great city for kids, too
avhoshi: its great..... i have learned so much stuff.....
jlind: LegoLand, SeaWorld, a museum,
debster: yes they will have a good time
kellyc: There are a lot of great activities for children in the San Diego area!
debster: big kids and old
avhoshi: the buccaneers won a super bowl there.......
jlind: avhoshi and tlight -- we're so happy you've found this site and the Psoriasis Foundation
tlight: I just got a perscription for embrel today....wish me luck
kellyc: Our Web site is fabulous for educating you on your disease....
debster: good luck
kellyc: And our message boards and chats serve as a great way for you to connect with other!
kellyc: Welcome!
avhoshi: thanks.....
BobO: I highly recommend purchasing a Guide Book to San Diego like on amazon.com, Frommers is one of the best, only about $12
Kimbercat: congrats, tlight
debster: with your new treatemnt you might be clear by August
avhoshi: i took my enbrel shot 3 hrs ago
jlind: you can always call us, too, at 800.723.9166
Kimbercat: or through AAA if you are a member, Bob
tlight: there is hope!
jlind: for any questions for our patient education specialists
Edr: Good idea Bob - and maybe a Zagats Guide to the local eateries
BobO: Yes, AAA is good, but their books are 60% advertisments
debster: I can say from experience that the frommers is much readerr freindly than AAA
Kimbercat: I'll have to check into that....thanks
jlind: avhoshi -- is that your first shot?
avhoshi: do the company's give away a lot of stuff at the convention
tlight: avhoshi...how is the embrel working for you
avhoshi: like free meds....
BobO: YES they sure do
BobO: Non-Rx of course
makeitgoaway: im also on enbrel with wonderful results
debster: I have always left the conference with all sorts of samples and little goodies
kellyc: Some of the exhibitors do have give-aways...
kellyc: They aren't always treatment related, but they're definitely fun!
BobO: There is always lots of swag to be had
debster: lol
jlind: yes, you might want to bring an extra bag with you :-)
kellyc: The exhibitors love connecting with patients and hearing what you have to say...
debster: wont hurt
avhoshi: i really like the results so far..... i'm starting to just see some....i really think biologics is the way to go but......i d/k if there will be any major cell structure changes in time
debster: wb
jlind: welcome back peleblue!
Kimbercat: I'm a Humira junkie myself
peleblue: thanks jlind
jlind: avhoshi, yes, we don't know much about the long-term effects yet
kellyc: Kimbercat - are you taking it for p or psa or both?
jlind: compared to methotrexate, especially
Kimbercat: for p
kellyc: is it working well?
debster: are there any new venders scheduled to be at this years conferance
Kimbercat: in a study...just extended for 2 more yrs
Kimbercat: worked wonderfully for me....
kellyc: There are a few new ones I think...
avhoshi: yes it will be a lot of fun i worked conventions for quite a few years from the inside so it would be nice to do it form the outside
jlind: Kim, that's excellent!
kellyc: The applications are still coming in.
kellyc: I haven't gotten an update in a while
Kimbercat: my last injection was Jan 27, and I am still in remission
kellyc: Congrats!
jlind: avhoshi -- you can tell us what you think of it, given your expertise
kellyc: That's great
BobO: OH YES - Will the conference be simulcast by Health Talk this year ? ? ?
debster: that is great to hear
avhoshi: awsome to hear that.
Kimbercat: I'm very excited about biologics
kellyc: The Saturday general session with be Web casted and available by phone...
Kimbercat: enjoy playing guinea pig
jlind: Kim, are you taking anything with it?
tlight: I have a man that works for me that started embrel 3 months ago and he has only abot 1 percent remaining
Kimbercat: no
BobO: Oh Good Kelly
kellyc: through HealthTalk
avhoshi: i just wish i was going this year but i promise i will be to the neaxt years
Kimbercat: I started clearing within 2 wks
avhoshi: to many surgerys i need to get a little better
Kimbercat: went from 20% coverage to 0% by about 5 wks
BobO: Holy Mackeral Cat - that's great
jlind: We'll have lots of follow-up about the conference that you can read
debster: start putting that loose change into a jar and before ya know it you will have next years trip all paid for
jlind: in the Psoriasis Advance
Eric: wow
jlind: any side effects, Kim?
Kimbercat: none
kellyc: That's awesome, Kimbercat!
Kimbercat: not even a flare
BobO: W-O-W
peleblue: what are you taking Kim
tlight: this is so encouraging.....as you know with P there are so many ups and downs.
avhoshi: awsome...results there was a great article about the way biologics are working
debster: man what success
Kimbercat: I was taking Humira, but am in remission currently
peleblue: oh never heard of it
Eric: congrats kim
tlight: congrat Kim
BobO: Home Run !!!!!! (this is for Steve hahaha)
kellyc: Kimbercat - How do you feel about being clear?
Eric: lol
avhoshi: they are using p sufferer's when they make drugs for surgical transplants
Kimbercat: I was just told yesterday that the study has been extended for 2 yrs, and I can continue getting the drug if and when I flare
Eric: what
avhoshi: Go.Mets......
tlight: its almost hard to imangine life without P
peleblue: wow that is wonderful kim
Eric: surgical transplants
peleblue: i'd be willing to experience life without P again, anytime
Kimbercat: I have really only had to deal with it for about 6 yrs, so I know life without p
debster: how have you managed the whithdrrawls from excessive picking and scratching
tlight: me too
avhoshi: so there bodys immune systemn dos not reject the organ
kellyc: The next issue of the Psoriasis Advance has an article on the emotional aspects of being clear...it's a very interesting topic that many people are now having to face!
LottieBay: Are there any studies on Humira in the Seattle area?
Kimbercat: so many others are not as fortunate
makeitgoaway: Yankees doing well also
LottieBay: Can you get it without being in a study group?
kellyc: LottieBay - It may be helpful to go to centerwatch.com to find out if there are clinical studies in your area
Kimbercat: not sure, Lottie...you might check the Abbott website
avhoshi: wow hopefully there will be a day that noone wil ever get it again
kellyc: You can get Humira without being in a study
tlight: Yes ... I'm not in a study group
kellyc: It's currently approved for RA
peleblue: that would be awesome avhoshi
Kimbercat: it is possible for some with pa to get it off label
jlind: yes, avhoshi -- that's why we're also pushing for more research funding
LottieBay: Isn't Humira the Diabetes drug?
kellyc: It would need to be prescribed off-label
BobO: When I get clear I keep involuntarily groping for my spots and I start missing my old friends haha
Kimbercat: no...that is avandia
Eric: I know UW does tons of studies and they do studies in Monroe also]
kellyc: for your psoriasis and psoriatic arthrits
avhoshi: the way bilogics are going it will happen
jlind: Eric, is that Monroe, Wisconsin?
LottieBay: I cant take the other Biologics because of my Leukemia
kellyc: Off-label is a common and accepted medical practice
Eric: washington
Eric: Dr. tjoeleker, I think that is the right spelling
Katied7040: Hi again
peleblue: hi katied
Kimbercat: hmm.....not sure how that would affect your ability to qualify, Lottie
debster: wb
Eric: He is in everett and monre
avhoshi: ever since they mapped out the genome it is only a matter of time
tlight: hi katied
jlind: Lottie, having leukemia probably would disqualify you
avhoshi: the nano technology and biologics is incredable
jlind: your doctor would need to determine your applicability
LottieBay: II need something that doesn't cause my bloodwork to look like I'm relapsing
avhoshi: brb
LottieBay: Or might mask a relapse.
debster: are you in remission now lottie
jlind: Are there any final questions about the conference?
LottieBay: One year YEA!!
Edr: I have to run. Goodbye, and thanks to all.
