Drugs in Development
Research into psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis treatments has come a long way since ancient times, when Hippocrates, the Greek "Father of Medicine" recommended arsenic to treat psoriasis or when 19th-century physicians prescribed treatments that included such ingredients as nitrate, sulfur and mercury.
Thanks to diligent scientific research, today's treatments are providing a wide range of safe and effective options for people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. And the search is continuing for safer and even more effective treatments.
The National Psoriasis Foundation tracks the movement of drugs for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis from preliminary studies through the three phases of clinical trails as required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This information is compiled, along with that from other sources, and entered into our own drug research pipeline. We use this tool to monitor the progress of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis treatments from early stages of development to when they become available to patients.
