I am posting an appeal I originally posted to the psoriasis thread. There has been little responce todate and time is running out. Please take a little time to help ourselves. I don't what will motivate those to get involve it the treatment of their own disease.
Dear friends and fellow sufferers,
I am writing you to ask for your help. A group of us was started a nationwide petition drive to ask congress for additional funding for National Institutes of Health and to increase funding in particular to the National Institute of Arthritis, Muscoloskeletal and Skin Diseases. Steve (Makeitgoaway) has posted the thread and very few have responded. I am perplexed as to why?
I don’t understand why more members have refused to respond let alone help. It is a way to be responsible for our own disease. We are all members of the National Psoriasis Foundation and they do a GREAT job working, educating and advocating for us but that can’t be the only obligation we have to ourselves to fight this disease?
The National Psoriasis Foundation has told us that they need at least 20,000 thousand signatures on the petition to be on help to them. That is less than one signature from every member. We need help gathering those names. Why can’t we get fifty, one hundred thousand signatures or more? If everyone just got his or her friends, family, and co-workers to sign the petition that numbers would be huge!
So what is stopping people from helping? Why can’t you spend a few hours getting those signatures. The more people involved in this effort the bigger the outcome! The National Psoriasis Foundation has reviewed the petition and they have made suggestions that we gladly incorporated into its body of the petition. It would be so self-empowering to be able to know that you had a part in the process that can and will make a difference.
Theodore Roosevelt once said, “criticism is necessary and useful; it is often indispensable; but it can never take the place of action, or be even a poor substitute for it. It is the doer of deeds who actually counts in the battle for life and not the man who looks on and says the fight ought to be fought, without himself sharing the stress and danger”. In this case there is no stress or danger just the satisfaction of knowing you have helped. So why not help. Be part of the solution! Be a doer and help us fight the fight. Don’t be an outsider in this fight!
I hope that I can e-mail the petition to many of you. If you don’t have e-mail I will gladly mail a copy to you. It really isn’t a big effort for you to help. Every signature helps us. Even if you can only get five, ten, twenty a hundred it doesn’t matter. Please, please helps us and together we can make a difference!
Thanking you in advance.
