Hi everyone,

Well I finally got another response to the several letters I sent out back in February. This one was from US House Rep F. James Sensenbrenner (WI). While I wouldn't say it is necessarily a form letter, it is rather general. Below is the contents of the letter:

Thank you for your recent letter regarding psoriasis. I am sorry to learn that you suffer from this disease.

As you know, psoriasis is an immune-mediated, genetic disease manifesting in the skin and/or the joints. It is a non-contagious and life-long skin disease that has different forms. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is the government agency primarily responsible for medical research, which includes psoriasis research.

Republicans and Democrats worked together to fulfill Congress' commitment to double the NIH budget over five years. We completed this initiative when the NIH budget increased from $13.7 billion in fiscal year (FY) 1998 to $27 billion in FY 2003. As a result of our commitment to doubling the NIH budget, nearly 10,000 more research grants will be funded than in FY 1998. These research grants can lead to vaccines, cures, and treatments, which will improve the health and quality of life for countless Americans.

You will be pleased to learn that Congress passed the FY 2005 Omnibus Appropriations bill, which continues our commitment to the NIH by providing $28.6 billion, $800 million more than last year. I certainly understand your support to increase funding for psoriasis research, and will keep in mind your thoughts when voting on legislation to fund the NIH later this year. Thanks again for contacting me.

Sincerely,

F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr.
Member of Congress

*Sorry for typos, I am about to head out to work and don't have much time to proofread.
Joey, I will be copying this letter and will mail it out to you tomorrow AM. Could you (or anyone else who has it) please post the address to send it to again? I have it somewhere, but I can send it out more quickly if I don't have to search this messy room for it! :D
