here is my unofficial list of the websites for home phototherapy unit manufacturers.

If there are any that I missed, please post them.

www.daavlin.com

www.natbiocorp.com

www.uvbiotek.com

www.trlc.com

www.solarcsystems.com

There is a lot of information, many different units, and different prices.

Good links Brad,

I think the www.tric.com is a bad link though...at least it was for me. I'm a firm believer in National Biological and Daavlin, the others I looked at during my conquest, but had issues with them.

I think Uvbiotek lacks an affordable model to treat full body psoriasis. It's not easy getting insurance coverage for these things and to go straight for the full wrap around is a hard sell and somewhat unaffordable in a cash transaction.

Solarc is good, but I have an issue with what seems to be dead space right down the middle of the unit. If you've taken a look at the units (full body) you'll know what I mean. It just seems like you'll have a line down your body with psoriasis and no tan (eventhough I'm sure that is not the case).

I have a National Biological unit and my only qualm is that I get a certain amount of treatments and then I need a code to get more. I know the reason for it, but for someone like me, it's an annoyance.

Brad,

Thanks for fixing the link! I've never heard of that company, but I have the same potential issue that I have with the Solarc systems. I just don't get the big gaps with no bulbs!??!

Hi,

I am almost ready to place an order with Solarc for their 8 bulb unit. Just saw your post. Did you try the Solarc unit yourself and get a strip/line down the body without coverage? Or just looked at the picture and draw the conclusion that it will leave some area on the body without coverage?

It's an important decision for me and I really appreciate your input. Thanks.

I have no experience with a Solarc unit. I was basing my comment on the picture. Common sense would dictate that no such problem would occur or no one would want the unit. I'm sure it's just as good as any!!

The bulbs for uvbnb are ALL THE SAME! It's just how they are packaged, presented and operate. For instance some work on timers and mine works on dosemity which figures in power and time, whereas the timers just figure in time. I don't think it's a huge deal but at my derms we used dosemitry and thats what I'm comfortable with and thats why I went with Daavlin. Daavlins bulbs, solarc bulbs, nbc bulbs are ALL THE EXACT SAME BULBS made by the Phillips company in Holland.

I am going to be looking into a home unit if I fail on Humira. I have a couple questions.

Do most units plug into a standard 110 outlet? Do you have to take an oral drug(Can't recall the name)when doing NB therapy?

Thanks! :D

In answer to dshenmdyn's question about the space in the middle of the Solarc's unit.

I bought 6 foot, 6 bulb unit and received it just less than two months ago. I had been bathing in water and table salt for about 6 weeks prior to receiving my unit, and the p was a lot less "angry" looking, but it as all still there. After two weeks of using the lights, I could see a dramatic difference, and after 6 weeks my skin feels smooth, just like I remember from many years ago. I still have some dark spots where the p was, but I feel like I'm 100% clear, even my elbows feel smooth.

As for the line down the middle of the unit, it sure seems to make no difference as far as my skin is concerned. As a matter of fact, the only time I had to slow down the treatments was because I was a little burnt on my chest and stomach. I think my arms and legs are need the most intense light and it seems to make sense that they are centered on either side as I stand in front of the light. I generally cover my face now, and also wear undies and a sleeveless T. I had a few spots on my torso to start with, but as soon as they faded I started with the T and there is no sign of them returning.

So, I am already started to wean my times down now - I slowly worked my way up to 10 minutes total, and spin in timed increments. I do it this way because I know that florescent light fixture and the bulbs themselves age quicker with each startup.

I am as surprised as anyone that this has worked so quickly!! Steve at Solarc says some people just clear and then stop the treatments till they are needed again and others do a "maintenance" schedule like one minute on each side twice a week. I am in the process of weaning down now and will perhaps try to stop for a while, we'll see..........

I suppose I should also mention that my derms says I had 50% coverage - some on my torso, none on my face or scalp (which he thought was unusual) and tons on my arms and legs.

One last bit of info - my insurance just contacted me and is paying their 80%. I fell sure it is due to all the advice I received on the board. I included many things in my claim that I would not have thought about if I hadn't asked for adivce from others, and the response was tremendous and truly appreciated.

Thanks, one and all. If you have any other questions about my experience or the Solarc unit, please feel free to ask anytime.

Hap
