Sally put this in conversations and I am putting it here so more people will see it.

A letter I received...

Dear Friend:
Last week, the U.S House of Representatives, using language crafted by Psoriasis Cure Now, took its strongest stand ever in support of increasing research on psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. This is a huge victory for everyone living with psoriasis, and it is a thrilling result for our young organization.

In four separate places in a Report accompanying a bill that will provide $28.5 billion in funds to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) during the coming year, the House urged NIH to increase its commitment to psoriasis research. Importantly, the House embraced our language to get one of the most powerful and biggest divisions of NIH to begin funding psoriasis research. Incredibly, this division, known as NIAID, is tasked with pursuing immune system research but has NOT been studying psoriasis. NIAID also has a budget EIGHT TIMES as big as the part of NIH that is currently conducting psoriasis research. By giving psoriasis researchers a dramatically larger pot from which to seek funding, we will help remove psoriasis research from the funding basement, where it has been stuck for more than a decade.

The House language is available here: http://www.psorcurenow.org/house.php Again, this is the strongest language ever by Congress in support of the psoriasis community. But our work is not done. We are still working behind the scenes to get the U.S. Senate to adopt the same, strong language; and we will keep the friendly pressure on NIH to comply with the wishes of Congress and expand its work on psoriasis research.

We have other efforts underway, and I want to include two more links here to help you stay informed about our work:

Important and breaking news about psoriasis is always posted here: http://www.psorcurenow.org/latestnews.php (You might want to bookmark this page and visit it periodically.)

Ways to get involved and make a difference are listed here: http://www.psorcurenow.org/jointhebattle.php

When we launched this campaign in January, we understandably met with some skepticism. Some wondered what we hoped to accomplish that far bigger groups had not accomplished. Well, the results speak for themselves. Just six months later, on a shoestring budget, we have testified before Congress, reached more than 10 million Americans through the media, and most importantly, drafted the strongest language ever included by the U.S. House in support of psoriasis research. If we continue to execute on our plan, this will lead to millions of additional dollars in psoriasis research in coming years. That spells hope for me, my young nieces, my brother, and the rest of the as many as 7.5 million Americans with psoriasis and/or psoriatic arthritis, not to mention their families.

While everyone’s support is appreciated, I particularly want to thank those who made financial contributions to what was an untested organization. Your trust in me is gratifying, and I hope you are pleased with our results to date.

But we are just warming up. In the coming months, we will expand our work in support of increased research, and access to treatments. Everything we do will be to advance those most important objectives.

We hope you will continue to support us in these efforts.

Sincerely,

Michael Paranzino
