Anyone having tummy troubles from your meds or something else,,,,,check this out. This is from the Hospital that we use---Forsyth Medical Center.

This is something Grandma used but don't take her word for it. Ask your doctor,,,,we wouldn't want someone to take something that is not APPROVED by someone in the medical profession :) :)

Granny.....intersting article! I just bought a Jack La Lanne power juicer yesterday and in reading over the recipes, prior to my trip to the market, I noticed ginger root was in some of the recipes! I have seen the root at the store but never knew how to use it in recipes or how to preserve the root....Today I will be making my first batch of juices.......(I've had juicers before that were more trouble than they were worth) but this one is easier to clean and has the wide mouth to receive some fruits and vegies whole!

Sally, that sounds like a good juicer, use lots of green stuff! We try making something like V-8. We get lots of nutrients from using the whole fruit or veggie.

When you have time-tell me how to prepare ginger root,,,I have never used it for anything.

I can't do V-8 anymore! Tomatos get me every time.

Maybe not just one, but I made spaghetti last night at DH's patient request, and now my finger points all by itself. Who needs PA anyway?

Darn! I really did like tomatos, too. He's getting the leftovers.

You just chop up the ginger root like onion or garlic. Use it in tea, or rice dishes, goes great in carrot veggie juice. With the juicer, you can use bigger chunks, and it goes well with a clove or two of garlic.

Dulane,,,just try some juices with things you can eat. Apple and carrot go well together. That's the only fruit/veggie mix that I have found.
We use celery, spinach, beets, just whatever!

Do you peel the ginger? And would using the dry spice work? Does anyone know?

My MIL bought me giner snaps, ginger tea, ginger chips, ginger candy, ginger roots, that she made into a stew, and ground ginger when I was pregnant, because I was so sick for the first four months or so I couldnt eat at all without having some ginger something. I swear ginger is wonderful for nasuea. I dont know how I would have made it without ginger coming to my rescue.

with this machine I have you don't peel too many fruits or vegies...on tv they put cantalope peel in....oranges and lemons they said in recipes, are very bitter so recommend not using those....all seeds stay in fruit except peaches, mangos or any large hard pit!

:) I first discovered ginger as a migraine remedy. It doesn't totally eliminate them, but it sure takes off the "edge". I used it, too, for motion sickness on a Caribbean cruise ... it really worked! This last summer, I found bottled ginger juice at the Nature's Pantry health food store. I like to use it in a drink I make that also includes stuff like apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, raw honey, Benefiber, green tea extract, cinnamon, hot water, and anything else "healthy" that I'm in the mood to throw in. It actually tastes pretty good. I've read that ginger is anti-inflamatory, so I'd think it couldn't hurt psoriasis or pa.

Granny,

The fresher the root, the less you have to peel it. If it gets too dry you can peel it and rescue the inner part. It usually keeps a month or more.

I heard that for the first time the other day. A lady in my Sunday School class just announced that she about 8 weeks pregnant. She said she had really bad nausea one day and spent the whole day eating ginger snaps and drinking ginger ale. Good to know for when I get to that stage in life! :-)

Hey,
About that garlic in veggie juice. Don't do it on a empty stomach.

You can put a small clove in and you're fine. But don't put in 2 big cloves unless you've already got food in your stomach.

And if you know you don't tolerate garlic well...best to avoid it all together. ;)

It has always helped me with upset stomachs and colds! but it is so good for you....with my flying routes being to Japan alot, our food trays we serve to passengers always have a sushi side dish which has fresh ginger on it...I love munching on pickled ginger and if someone has an upset stomach I tell them to put a little of the fresh ginger in their mouth and try to chew or suck on it...
I also take an herbal supplement for my joints which consists of ginger, bromelain (from pineapple) and green tea...it's wonderful

I even put some ground ginger in my dead sea salt bath water! Ginger...LOVE IT!
