Has anyone heard of this product? I watched an infomercial on it about 3 weeks ago or so and I know you can't believe everything you see on tv, but this sounded fairly legit. The guy claimed after adding seaweed to his diet that he has not been sick or had health insurance since 1992. Very interesting. Definitely one of those "sounds to good to be true" kinda things. Do you know anyone who's taken it?

I've heard very good things about wakame, and rhodoplex. And I do a little kelp every day, along with spirulina and chlorella.
It all goes in a smoothie.
:)
Not having health insurance is really not much to brag about!

Has it helped with your P and/or PA though? Not that I would ever stop medication without my doctor telling me to, but this just sounded like good, simple logic. And if it improved my P and PA and maybe helped me lose a little weight (?) it would be greatly appreciated.

I lost the weight previous to adding the algaes. And my PA is negligible. I'm aware I have it and today one of my fingers is pretty stiff, but I ate spaghetti last night, and it's not part of my diet.
I've come a long way since last winter when I had it in my spine, hips and shoulders.
My rings have been falling off lately. I got them resized to fit this last year, due to swelling...now I have to wear them on other fingers, because they're too big!

Yeah, I'm not doing any "serious" dieting like Paganos or anything. But I have made a promise to myself to stay on the Slimfast diet for at least a year. I NEVER stay on diets. The best I did was my Junior year of college. I limited myself to certain number of calories per day and got down to the upper 140s or lower 150s (I don't remember how high I got up) but then I went to Paris, France for a month to study abroad and got down to 142, my lowest weight since high school. I immediately went back up to 152 when I got home due to lack of exercise and eating out all the time. I was so mad! And I haven't been below 150 since. In fact I seem to be holding at 162 now. This is not healthy for me (I'm only 5' 4") and I'm sick of it! Sorry to vent all of that.

Have you looked at the ingredients in Slim Fast?
I don't know if you can really lose weight with all that sugar> does it have a diet you follow also?
http://www.ultimatefatburner.com/reviews/slim-fast-diet.html
maybe you better watch how much of it you drink a day! lots of sugar...sugar and fructose (sugar)

Maybe Charley's success will help convince people.
One of the best things about the elimination diets is the weight loss without trying.
I'd rather eat green than hurt, any day of the week.
You don't have to try it all at once, but those inflammation causing foods do not help PA. I can testify to that.

Hi Geniphur,
Here is a blurb from The American College of Rheumatology regarding diet and arthritis;
Although there are plenty of "arthritis diets" out there which promise to alleviate symptoms, only one condition - gout - has been linked to what you eat. People with gout have too much uric acid in their bloodstream. Foods that may aggravate gout include meat, poultry, dried beans and peas, alcohol, fish such as anchovies, herring and scallops, and certain vegetables.
And there is intriguing new evidence that certain fish and foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids, may help to reduce the pain and inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis. You can consume more omega-3 fatty acids by eating certain nuts and cold water fish like mackerel and salmon.
Still the evidence so far is scarce that any diet in and of itself will help protect you against arthritis. A sensible diet, low on fat and high in fruits and vegetables, is still your best bet for maintaining overall health and keeping weight down.
Diets for inflammatory arthritis are being studied all the time and some hold great promise for us! I cut out red meat recently, so far no change but I am hoping that it does help, it's still early yet. I tried pinapple without results but it's delicious! I'm trying that again~I bought one today :) ...bing cherries with no results again really delicious but expenisve when not in season.
You should ask your rheumatologist about any new evidence regarding diet and PA, he would know if he's up to date on these sorts of things. You could also consult a dietitian about losing weight, my dad did and it's really helping him a lot ( he doesn't have P/PA ) but he's overweight.
Exercise ( if you can tolerate it on your joints ) is also key in helping with weightloss. There might be an aquatherapy program near you, its gentle on your joints, they go thru range of motion exericses in a warm water pool. It could help you stay in shape ( ask your dr first though ) www.arthritis.org has a listing of all programs. They also have information about diets. http://www.arthritis.org/resources/nutrition/diet.asp
Good luck!
Karen :)

Hi again,
At the front of the NPF site there is a treatment section www.psoriasis.org
In that section you will find a link for diet and psoriasis;
http://www.psoriasis.org/treatment/psoriasis/diet/
My psoriasis is mild and I haven't found that any foods are linked to it one way or the other same with my PA however as I wrote above, I'm trying a few different things.
Check it out you might find something helpful!
Karen :)

As for the Slim Fast thing, they have a new line called Optimum that has 50% less sugar. I use that and I don't just drink the shakes. I have the meal bars and their snack cookie bars too. All are delicious (except for the breakfast bars, they're nasty) and they help me not crave chocolate which is a HUGE weakness of mine. I haven't started losing weight over the past week, but that's mostly because I haven't exercised, I have a test on Saturday that I've been studying for.
As far as exercise goes, the water therapy thing would be cool, but I just don't have time to go outside of my home and do things like that. I barely have time to get in an hour of pilates 3 times a week. Pilates are my favorite and they work for me, plus my rheumy said to continue with the pilates, she seemed really pleased that I had been doing that.
Elimination diets are not for me. I'm the pickiest eater in the world and could never be happy on it, not to mention I have a husband who would balk at the idea because he never suffers from any disease or cold.
Dieting for me right now is for losing weight not for the PA. Although I'm sure the effects of dieting will lessen my symptoms of PA. My Mom's been on the Slim Fast thing off and on ever since I started college and she's lost a lot of weight. I think she weighs about 5 - 10 pounds less than I do and she's 2 inches taller than me. Course she's also joined Curves and that has helped her a lot.
Now I'm rambling again. I didn't mean to start a whole discussion on diet and weight, I really just wanted to know if anyone had heard of or had tried Sea Vegg. And by the way, for cost alone I think it would be good to brag about not having to need health insurance anymore. I still can't believe that!

Hi,
I have never tried Sea vegg....When you see this " Definitely one of those "sounds to good to be true" kinda things " It usually is. :D Keep up the pilates!
Karen :)
p.s I have a friend who belongs to Curves, I think it's a great idea for those who are able to do that type of exercise.

You cannot dismiss the sea vegetables as 'too good to be true'.
The Japanese have been using them for centuries, and they are healthier per capita than we are. And they aren't known for being heavy either.
All the edible seaweeds are packed with protein and minerals. Seaweeds and algae have more protein per oz than steak. More calcium than milk, plus chlorophyll...just to name a few of their benefits.
It's a good idea to do a little research before making blanket statement like that. People do come here for information, afterall.

I actually have had sea weed wrapped crackers and they were delicious, I personally didn't dismiss sea veggies as a whole, I like seaweed in soups, salads and crackers.
As for the " sea vegg " product, I believe that mircales can occur, however I'm not sure we will find it in this bottle. I'm not sure what " more is "

If you do research on any of the edible seaweeds, you will find that the claims made by this company are all within reason.
A minor problem with them is that you do need to consume quite a bit of it, like several teaspoon fulls everyday. Many body-builders use these supplements religiously, and consume them in quantity. But they are 50% or better protein, so they are wonderful for those of us eating more veggies than meats.
The north sea varieties are touted for less pollution, as are any of them that are grown in less polluted areas. Just as the better cod liver oils comes from Norway.
There are numerous studies saying that the algaes and seaweeds are super foods, and contain components that cause cellular regeneration. Nothing that populations who live along the sea haven't known for centuries.
Sushi anyone?

Now I'm hungry again, I love sushi....and eatable seaweed :D
I also got this off the " sea vegg " website;
" These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease "
I think it's probably best to consume sea veggies in thier natural state rather than in a bottle that contains an ingredient called " more "....
