I went to the Vitamin Shoppe today for my bottle of lemon flavored cod liver oil.... :D lucky me!
Anyway while there I decided to get some GSE to try on my scalp...this is very potent stuff...you can only use drops for various things...anyone on antisuppressant should not take it......if on blood thinner too......
I have been googleing it for different things...here is one for psoriasis

Thanks..somebody had posted something on Grapefruit seed in this forum and I had already decided to get some and tell family to use it too. After reading all these things, I'm going to go today and buy it! Both for the psoriasis and all the other things too. Especially the way it deals with viruses and wards them off. I'm thinking the inner ear thing for me (dizziness) is from a herpes-type virus, the type of virus that will go dormant and then active. Anway, it's worth a try. Regardless of whether it works for that, i think this sounds like just an excellent all-around must-have for achieving and maintaining good health.
:)
how do you do the smilies in text?

Hi soleil
To put a smiley in the text,,, :) make sure your cursor is where you want a smiley, then just click on the one you want. :)

Granny,
The smilies here don't work the same. You just use the colon and parenthesis keys, and the letter D or the little o or some of the other combos. You can also use a semi colon and the right side parenthiesis key.
You forget which forum you are posting on!

:D OMG, I just saw this post and it reminded me of years ago when my gram used to squeeze grapefruit juice in my hair because I had bad dandruff as a kid. This was back in 1970. It never seemed to help, I guess because it is the seeds that hold the secret not the grapefruit, right? Any ways gram swore by grapefruit for everything and ate it every day, she lived without many medical problems till she was 93.
Thanks for the reminder, maybe I’ll get the real stuff and try it. Is their a difference between the juice, the fruit, and the seeds?

Tim,,,from reading Sally's link,,,I think it is the Grapefruit Seed Extract.
If you try it, please let us know if it helps.
Hi Tim,,,where have you been??? I'm sure your gram had quite a few of remedies.... :)

Thanks Gran and arl. I was hoping sally could clarify it for me cause I don't have a seed grinder :D
I have been unable to find any info on what the diff is between the seed and the juce...
grannyfranny

Tim,,,,the seed extract is made from the seeds and the juice is the juice,,,you know,,,the stuff you drink! :) Do not take it if you take Lipitor, but I don't think you take that,,,do you? I always ask my pharmacist about supplements and my prescription meds. A good pharmacist sometimes knows more than doctors about what not to take.
Here is a link,,,this site tells a lot about the GSE and what it can be used for. it comes in a powder or liquid. If you decide to try it, check with your local health food store.

If you use it,be sure to let us know if it works. Sally has a battle with scalp p.

Gran and Tim,,,I think Sally is churning her butter...... :D
maybe we could add some GSE to it :D and rub it on our scalps.
But I still want to know why the seed has more healing properties then the juice....
No, granny the only med I use is enbrel, and I am clear but I want to stop it. I just don't want the p back, esp the scalp p back!!

Hi Tim I searched for an explanation but couldn't find one...it is out there somewhere.... :p Anyway I've always heard that seeds pack the punch in foods...they carry the ability for growth with lots of good enzymes and all that stuff......the juice is good too but doesn't have the potency that the seeds have...
I'm going to be a guinea pig here and try the internal use of the GSE since I've tried every thing I can think of for scalp P....I know it has to be something coming from inside that is causing the scalp P. So I started taking 15 drops of GSE in fruit juice 3 x a day......Oct 14th (my 55th anniversary yesterday) It seems everything I try for the scalp it gets better....for a while then gets worse.....it is in my ears and behind them also down the forehead about 1 inch.
The brand I'm using is made by NutriBiotic....and is 67% vegetable glycerine and 33% Citricidal (grapefruit seeds) I am going to order the Pure Liquid Gold
brand as it is higher strength 60% Citricidal ...40 % vege. glycerine.
Here is a good excerpt on what it does for the user....
Another important benefit of grapefruit seed extract is that it is helpful in alkalizing the blood. Alkalizing the body fluids (raising pH) is one of the single most important health regeneration benefits available as disease causing microforms (fungi, bacteria, virus etc.) cannot survive in an alkaline oxygenated environment. Though lemons, limes, and grapefruits are chemically acid, tests show that when they are metabolized in the body they actually have an alkalizing effect. They have very little sugar and they contain an abundance of oxygen. This is a plus for anyone fighting candida or any other disease. Conclusion: Eat more fresh vegetables and less processed foods as most all vegetables are alkaline forming in the body.

since this is a GSE thread, adding this here....
was looking at NOW foods trying to c if their SE is inner bark, since its not specified, so emailed them..
Searched for GSE and got this page... all "Other Ingredients" seem nice including GSE ....
http://www.nowfoods.com/?action=itemdetail&item_id=3879
Sally.. for internal consumption, now says its quite safe, but they hv to toe FDA's line.... they recommend 3-4 drops in a glass of juice.. so be careful since u r using it in higher concentration but its safe for a few days i guess... all the best

I was about to hit the PA section and saw this thread on GSE. Did I see where somebody said not to take it if you're on immunosuppressants? i.e., mtx? There is a dose in one of the vitamins I take, part of a Metabolic Nutritional System supplement.
It also contains, grape seed, milk thistle, garcinia, moomiyo and others that I haven't researched since starting mtx.
Any advice on the need to and/or how to pick apart the ingredients?
thanks,
patti

Patti,,,,are you confusing "grape seed" with "grapefruit seed"?
patti2957

No, it has both! Along with many other things that are helpful, I'm sure.
If you know whether or not grapefruit seed interacts with immuno's let me know.

Patti,,,I'm not sure,,,I know that you are not supposed to take grapefruit with Lipitor. It will slow down the action of Lipitor.
I'm doing some research when I can.

hey Sally,
thanks again for all your info about Grapefruit Seed extract...

ORANGE sounds like a good change....I just bought a new bottle and CA must be ahead of IN ....we don't have that flavor! :D but then I gulp two tblsps down so fast I don't taste anything.
Good luck Abby! let us know how the GSE does! how was Japan? did you get out to see much? My niece lived there for a couple years in her youth...loved it...she taught herself Japanese before she went over with recordings...and then learned more just living there...she supported herself teaching English to the Japanese....I guess everyone wanted to learn at that time.

yes, I gulped a tablespoon of the orange cod liver oil and it tasted pretty good actually!
Japan is getting colder now this time of the year, and it is typhoon season..
I am actually flying right back to Tokyo tomorrow! I backed my flights up so I have like 5 or 6 days off after this..back to back Japan trips...I will probably just sleep my entire layover this time...LOL
thanks again for all the helpful info! Will let you know how everything goes..off to make some American Saffron tea now! :D

Hey Sally... I started doing 10 drops of GSE in juice, 2x a day, on either tuesday or monday, can't remember. I'm doing it in addition to keflex (antibiotic), which I'm not sure I should be doing, but didn't Granny do that? The pharmacist didn't know much about GSE... it doesn't show a drug interaction on rxlist.com, so I guess it's ok to take together.
Anyway, I read somewhere that if you start off with a big dose of GSE (which I guess 10 drops is) you can experience a die-off reaction (which I guess might be making my P worse... I seem to still be developing new spots every day.) I guess it would be killing off the yeast and that's releasing toxins, making my P explode.
I'm just worried that taking this antibiotic for a month is going to kill off my good bacteria and let any yeast (or whatever bad stuff) that I might have gotten rid of in the last six weeks get out of control again. I read on dr. mercola's site that if you're on antibiotics, you should double your dose of probiotics. I just started on Primal Defense, and that's what he sells on his website so I guess that's a good sign... I'm doing 3 capsules a day, should I do 6? Good gawd, I'm taking two handfuls of vitamins and stuff already, what difference would three more pills make.
What do you think? Granny, are you around? Dulane? I need a little bit of hand-holding, y'all.

Jen,,,I did start GSE while I was on Keflex. I use to get a vaginal yeast infection everytime I took an antibiotic but a few years ago it stopped happening. I don't know why. I did not have it when I was on Keflex.
I take 8-10 drops of GSE 2xdaily,,,every day,,,,unless I forget. I put mine in about 4 oz. pineapple juice.

we're here Jenn....I just listened to a radio show by Dr Donsbach and he was saying he takes 90 pills a day!!!!
I really feel that the GSE will help along with the antibiotic in wiping out the pesky strep.....and you need to get that bug out of your system before you see any progress! have patience.....it takes a while......are you on any of the teas? SE and AS? they soothe the digestive tract!
I know you are watching and eating healthier foods...so many of us have gone through the periods of itching and rebounding that its so common to hear.....time is the essence of patience....are you taking salt baths? usually epsom salts ....one gal claimed reg table salt helped her P....I used the dead sea salts simply because we have a hot tub and it wasn't a waste....the water gets recycled so the salt is not going down the drain like tub water does.......however I did add salt every few days, after starting out with their recommendations!
here is a blurb from Saltworks website:
http://www.saltworks.us/salt_info/si_DeadSeaSaltBathing.asp
At SaltWorks we have long believed in the power Dead Sea Salt baths. We recommend bathing in BOKEK™ Dead Sea Salt as one of the primary ways of relaxing, detoxifying, and treating disease. For treatment of illnesses, we recommend adding two pounds of salt to a lukewarm bath. This much is necessary to start changing the skin’s chemistry. The temperature of a healing bath should only be about 2 degrees warmer than the temperature of your body. Hot bath water causes the skin to eliminate instead of absorb, therefore the minerals of the salt cannot be absorbed into the body; instead they are eliminated.
but remembersalt is not good for metal pipes, most households have PVC pipes today, but the salt water is not good for septic systems....(that's what we have) our hot tub is outdoors and does not go through our septic system!

Thanks you sweet ladies... that makes me feel a little better. I'll keep on the GSE and see if I can maybe find some more research about the probiotics and how much I should take... I read a really good article last night about it, just saying that probiotic supplements can be very helpful in avoiding the diarrhea and intestinal problems that antibiotics so often cause. It also said that antibiotics kill the good bacteria, which we all know, but the reason why that's bad is because it allows the yeast and other bad bacteria to proliferate. And as we know, yeast = bad.
About the strep and my family passing it back and forth. My DH is going to the doc Monday and will talk to him about it. I called Ryan's pediatrician and talked to a nurse... she talked to his doc and called me back... he said that it's his understanding that P is a chronic condition and that once it's triggered there's no point in treating it in someone else to keep me from getting it again. Lots of people carry strep and I can't expect to be able to avoid it forever. But that if I want Ryan to be looked at for some kind of strep, he would do it... I'm sure he thinks I'm nuts. I guess I just want to avoid it until I can get my own immune system built up to where it can fight off strep.
Maybe I can put us all on GSE? A couple of drops in my kid's apple juice might be all right? (Don't anybody call DSS... I'm talking two drops. It's better than a parent insisting that a dr. prescribe antibiotics for a cold.)

Thanks for that Sally... I'm definitely going to try a few drops in his apple juice. I know his doctor is going to think I'm nuts over this strep thing, and I'm having a hard time imagining how they'll diagnose it anyway... heaven forbid they have to take blood from him. Last week they did it for allergy testing and it took me and one nurse to hold him down and another nurse did the draw.
Speaking of that, this is off topic but that allergy test finally came back (for my little guy) and he had class III allergies to milk, wheat, soy, house dust, and dogs. Class IV for egg yolk, and class 6 for egg white (I guess class 6 is pretty bad.) I have no idea how this is happening because the boy has never ingested an egg in his life (and very rarely had one as an ingredient in something.) If he is really allergic to milk, I dont know where his calories are going to come from because he only eats chicken and vegetables and brown rice as it is! :(

Milk is a very common allergen....why is he only on chicken? I was told by my doctor that if you eat the same things over and over you can develop an allergy to that food...the idea is to try to rotate foods so that doesn't happen.....I know he is 20 months....will he eat other meats or maybe some fish once in a while?
how about rice milk? the vanilla is good ...goats milk? you can get that at most supermarkets now......
can he have rice or oat cereal? with a little maple syrup?

Oh, I didn't mean that was ALL he eats. :) For breakfast he usually has a handful of rice chex or honeycombs and some drinkable yogurt. For a snack he has some fruit or a cheese stick in the mornings. For lunch, he'll have a veggie and chicken or turkey or ham or every once in a while beef or fish, but he doesn't love those, and then another snack of fruit or corn or a cheese stick in the afternoon. Then for dinner repeat veggie/meat/brown rice cycle. He probably drinks 3 10 oz. sippy cups of milk during the day and evening too, and would drink more if I'd give it to him. He LOVES milk. And diluted apple juice, a couple of sippy cups a day. He's a drinker.
How do you post a picture? I love to show him off!

good...
when you post a reply further down there is a box that says manage attachments .....click on that.....a box pops up that says "brouse"...when you click on that you go to where you have your pic saved click and select the picture so it is high lighted...it will automatically go into the brouse box....click "UPLOAD" and then submit reply.
the main thing is to make sure the photo is either a jpg or gif and "at or under 48.8 kb"
