Has anyone had any experience with Nail Psoriasis?

I have the pits in my fingernails and my toe nails are pretty nasty and actually have the plaque psoriasis growing underneath the nail so it seems like sometimes the nail is growing straight up and it's really thick and just...icky. The only thing I could every really do for the feet was soak them or apply the prescribed creams and cut them as needed so they didn't get too repulsive. With the pits in the fingers there really was nothing to help expect the biologic meds.

Hi! My daughter is also 7 and has had psoriasis on hands & feet since age 3. Both finger & toenails were severely affected--pitted, discolored, thick & kind of curling up, like described by sabsmako. Our topical medications & tar bath that are part of the regimen did little to affect the nails--it's hard to get the medicine into the cuticle, where the new nail growth starts. I did some research and UV light seemed to be the best treatment for nails. Our derm at the time didn't have any experience w/UV treatment & referred us to our current derm. Long story short--we now have a hand/foot UV unit at home & use it 3X weekly. Her fingernails are perfectly normal and toenails look almost perfect--however, her palms themselves are not responding so well as of late and we are looking into the next line of treatment, namely systemic treatment w/either methotrexate or Enbrel. I highly recommend UV treatment for nails, though.

would short (but often) sunbaths @ the beach substitute artificial UV equipment?

Yes, natural sunlight will not just be an adequate substitute, but it's probably even better. Usually it's just difficult to find the time to get out in the sun and find days where it's not overcast, raining, or cold (for winter months).

Yes, much better substitute, and if your water is clean and warm enough, I'd recommend swimming or bathing in it. I think the salt water helps aid the healing process.

Hey there, I have had Psoriasis for the last 16yrs and Nail P for the last 7yrs. My nails are pretty nasty, I've tried everything. I found that Olive Oil works, helps the nail grow back.

How exactly do you use the olive oil for the nails? My daughter has 4 nails (pinky and ring on each hand) that are affected and nothing has seemed to work on them. I have had luck with olice oil on her scalp. Do you just rub the olive oil on the nails as you would any other topical?

I personal cut my nails down so that there is no lifting...then I just rub the olive oil onto the exposed nail bed. Since the nail is already lifted it doesn't hurt to clip it. I was also told that UV lights help it too...thou I have never tried it.

In my personal experience, I believe a lot of the topical treatments are not getting at the root of the issue. I had P on different parts of my body for about 10 years before getting it under the nails; a few years later PA formed in the joints of the fingers and toes where the P was under my nails. I really believe that someone with P under the nails should seek treatment such as humira to get to the root of the problem before things get worse - the sooner the better...this is just my personal opinion.

Hi. I had this, too. It's the MOST difficult to get rid of b/c your nail doesn't allow anything to enter and treat it. Get this P-73 Oregano Oil that worked miracles for my skin. It's on the net for sale for about $20 a half ounce, very expensive. Soak your nails, cut them back as much as you can WITHOUT making them bleed. Dry them off. Take the dropper and apply this oregano oil to your nailbed several times each day. It works like bleach, but it's totally natural. Try this on your fingers, too.
If you want to change your diet like I did, cut out sugar, wheat, fruits, dairy and go organic for 5-6 months. Just try it, you have nothing to lose except your P. Purge your body from toxins, do cleanses, fast from time to time.....drink tons of water and green antioxidant teas.
Let me know if it works, it did for me.
