View Full Version : How soon we forget!

As mosst of you may know my P has been under control for a very long time now, but my PA runs rampant. In October, my rhuematologist suggested that I see a pain specialist while we wait for teh new drugs to hit the market. After a couple of months, we were able to work together to manage the pain to the point where I only occassionally had some breakthrough pain to deal with. Because of insurance requirements after my last visit with the pain doc I needed to switch all my pain meds to the mail order pharmacy. Since the pain doc will only prescribe a months supply at a time, I am now completely out of pain medication. He can't prescribe locally because if he does the mail order will not go through. So after being mostly pain free for the last 3 1/2 months, I am now feeling all of that pain this morning. I can easily say that I had forgotten how difficult it is to do anything when in this pain. When you are searching for pain relief you never think that you will be able to experience a day or even an hour without pain. Once you get it totally under control, you forget just how much being in pain affects you.

I am hoping for a med delivery today, but in reality it may not be for another 5 to 7 days. Mail order may be great for recieving some meds but definitely not pain meds.

Sorry to go on like this, but I needed to vent some and there's no one around here that would understand. Good luck to all of you who are searching for help. I hope you are able to find it quickly.

Paige,
Yes you do forget how much the pain affects you. We get reminded real quick when it comes back though. I hope you get your meds soon. Vent away. It always makes me feel better to get it out.
Feel better soon,
Polly

Hi Paige,

Sure do hope you get your meds very soon. You are so right on how fast the pain can come back when you don't have the right treatment avaiable. I think we notice it so much more when we do have something that will work for awhile and if for some reason we aren't able to use it, the reminder is so strong!

Take care and let us know how you make out

Hi Paige,

Is there any way you can check to see exactly where your medication is via tracking?

I hope that you can get them sooner than later.

Hang in there.

I called Walgreens Mailorder this afternoon only to find out that the meds have been backordered. They don't know when they will get them, but I can call again tomorrow to find out what the status is. After a complete breakdown on my part, a phone call to my husband put me back on track. (My husband travels for business and this week is in Edison, NJ) I called my Pain doc and explained the problem, drove the two hours out and back, got one speeding ticket, but made it back to the local pharmacy just before it closed for the night. I now have paid out of pocket for a two week supply. (Had to go completely out of pocket without it being put through insurance or else it would have messed up the order already waiting to be filled) I don't care about the cost and even smiled while getting the ticket from the trooper, anything to stop the pain.

Now my question is how can a company as large as Walgreens, that services one third of the nation be completely out of this pain med and not let the patient know or transfer the prescription to one of their other two outlets?

It has been quite a day around here and I am so thankful that you all are out there understanding the trials and tribulations of these diseases!

Thanks,
Paige

I just wanted to say, the Australian health system is way different to the US system, and a lot better in my opinion, and boy am I thankful. Take my rheumy app for instance. I am going to pay $190 upfront and I will get $111 back, and that is just the public normal insurance that anyone can have for free (I guess we pay it in our taxes), and if I had private health insurance the coverage would be even better.
Anyway all I can say, I wish your health system was as good as mine!
and Paige, I hope you're feeling a lot better!
Glad you got your meds even if you did have to pay out of pocket for them.

PS ...I'm sure you all really want to know, but i thought maybe it would interest someone!

Paige,
That stinks that the med is on back order. I'm glad you got something to help even though you got a speeding ticket and had to pay out of pocket. Hopefully you will feel better now.

Paige,

So sorry you had to go to all that trouble to get your medication, especially when you were in so much pain at the time. In the last few months I have had two separate occasions where my mail order pharmacy had cancelled or delayed an order, and in one instance caused me to run out of a medication that was not to be stopped without dangerous effects.

After that instance, I found out that my mail order company will allow my doctor to call in a 10-day supply to a local pharmacy if I am going to run out of a medication and they are not able to fill the order or refill in time - and the insurance will cover it. You might want to check in to that before paying out of pocket again or if your pain meds remain on backorder (which is ridiculous to begin with  ).

Hope you're doing better-
Hugs-Vicki

I'll check into that. My meds finally arrived in the mail yesterday!! Two weeks after the initial order was placed. I would not have made it if the pain doc had net agreed to a two week script. I hope that I never have to go through all that again, but I feel pretty sure that I will have to.

Thanks everyone for your support and good thoughts throughout this nightmare.
