I can't go to Washington, D.C. Heck, being on two types of organ transplant rejection drugs right now makes it risky to go to the grocery store. So I wrote a letter to Senatory Kay Bailey Hutchinson, who is my representative from Texas. She actually reads her mail and replies. I told her about Capitol Hill Day, and how much I wanted to be there to meet her and tell her my story. I explained what I had, and why the medicines that I take keep me at home. I told her how much I wanted to keep working, and expressed my concerns about losing my health insurance. I ended the letter by thanking her for listening to my concerns about psoriasis reasearch funding, and asking for her support.
It would be just great if at least one million letters were sent this week. E-mails would be better. There is a delay in receiving regular mail because of anthrax screening. Since this is our week to have a voice, let us share our stories so that we can evoke compassion from Congress to INCREASE, rather than decrease NIH funding.
