I need a moisturizer that wont irritate the p on my hands - I've tried Aveeno, Shea Butter with Vitamen E, Cetaphil, Eucerin and even Aloe Vera cream and they all irritate my hands - any other suggestions? I noticed that a common ingredient is Stearic Acid and Cetyl Alcohol ... I wonder if this is what's burning my hands...?

when my hands were at their worst, anything with even the slightest hint of scent would hurt. I used Dovonex several times/day and then wore cotton gloves. I used Vaseline, too. Now, thanks to Enbrel I just need to moisurize several times daily with Neutrogena, Aveeno or whatever.

Godd-Old Fashioned-Vaseline. I am alergic to aquaphor. Which is just like vaseline but they add lanolin. It is a beautiful moisturizer. But I found out after I covered my whole body, all my spots and all, and developed an itchy as hell rash all over my body. I have used ALOT of products. Nothing works like vaseline. I HATE hand creams/lotions, anything on my hands while I am awake. I use vaseline at nite with white cotton inspection gloves. And with vaseline, you do not need to do it every nite.
I always used vasoline or aquaphor. I would put it on at night before i would go to bed.

My dermatologist recommends VaniCream. I get it at the drugstore and it has no frangrance or additives and not greasy! He has all his patients use it when they do UVB treatments. It's a wonderful product!

Hi, I have found that Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion with Collodial Oatmeal works best for me. But it does have the Cetyl Alcohol... Another thing that has worked, though messy is to rub my hands in Olive Oil at night and then wear gloves to bed.
Good luck!

I like cetaphil. On the really cracked parts I like aquaphor. Everything else irritates, unless it is a natural (not fake) lavender scented lotion. Sometimes I find it soothing.

I am actually going through a trial and error period with lotions. I can not seem to find one that does not also irriate. I am just now getting smarter (thanks to Mike K) that lotions with added fragrances are a no-no! I started using "Gold Bond Body Lotion Triple Action Relief for Dry & Itcy Skin, Extra Strength". OMG! I have been more itchy than ever!! Which is a shame because that stuff is like 6 bucks a pop!!! But then I am like is it the lotion or is it because the temperature has been in the teens here in Rochester? I think that alone drys out your skin. So I have no clue. However, I did use "Suave Sensitive Skin Fragrance Free Moisturizer" today and I have not been nearly as itchy!! Coincidence? I will do some more testing. But heck, Suave was soooo much cheaper! It was $2.50 for 3x the size bottle-grrrr!
Good Luck JIA72! I understand your dilemma!

The udder thing is called Bag Balm. most gardening stores carry it, Udderly smooth is another one as well as tail and mane, which is for horses hooves to soften them, I tried them all.they are good moisturizer but they do have a fragrance. Burts Bees products are also a very good moisturizer. (Well I guess I'll gallop of to the barn now) :D

My favorite is theraplex emollient, and theraplex clear lotion- one is a heavy cream and the other a light oil for after showering. I usually have to ask that it be ordered for me CVS will order most anything their distributor has.

I get mine at BJ's (warehouse club) - it comes in a tub and it is 100,000 IU cream. I have been using since my derm took me off everything else in prep for my home light unit (just finished the ordering process - should be here soon - then the fight to get my insurance to cover it and reimburse). I only use once a day - but if I were to use it more frequently it would probably work better - but even with just once a day I don't get itchy until after 8 pm at night - and I'm in bed by 10 and I'm lucky enough that the itch doesn't keep me awake like some other sufferers. :(
Good luck!

i have this stuff that i got from the conference in San Diego, and then someone who knew i loved it gave me more in Boston... its called Lelia Sea, andapparently it has minerals in it from the dead sea? I dont know, but it keeps my moisturized-- and it smells good too, without irritating my skin.

I love the Body Shop. I only use Shea Butter body wash and body butter - as it is frag free. It keeps me comfortable all day long. For my hands, I am a constant hand-washer, so I need to refuel this several times a day. I found the most effective to be Body Shop's almond stuff in the screw top container. I have used a lot of different products, mainly because I like smelly stuff & keep trying to find one that smells girlie & works..... So far, this stuff is my fav....even if it doesn't make me smell girlie.

If all else fails and you have lots of area to cover, use olive oil. Or peanut oil is good too.
You want the food oils that are cold expeller pressed, like Haines. These will be near odorless, and keep for several months. If you buy a big bottle to save money, you can refrigerate the other half indefinitely.
And they are both anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. Castor oil is good for occluding the hands and feet.
Since these are food oils, you don't pay extra for perfumes and there are no additional additives.
Expeller pressed coconut oil is also very good. No prescriptions required.
If they are too oily, wait a few minutes, rub in again, then use a paper towel and wipe off the excess.
