Hello all:
Summer is almost here and I live in Las Vegas so there is no getting away with long sleeve shirts here.
I am looking for anything strong!!! :) The last strong ointment I used was Diprolene by any chance is there something better out yet?
Of coarse I am doing all the other things to but I'm not clear at all. and my coaltar smells really bad and burns me in the sun.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi John. I used Vanos for two weeks to partially clear up pustule psoriasis areas. Then I had to switch to a lower strength ointment called Desonide. Vanos worked pretty well. The Desonide doesn't seem to be very effective.
Good luck finding something new that will work. Protopic made my skin burn in the sunshine. I couldn't tolerate that and tossed the tube.

Okay I live in Las Vegas too, funny...and I used Diprolene when I was 11 and it did nothing!
I just went to a new derm yesterday and he told me he's had success with Olux Foam underneath Dovonex. He put me on a regimen of putting on the foam and then the ointment twice a day for two weeks, then maintaining with the Dovonex and using the foam only on weekends. I see him in a month.
I'm also going to head to the beach this summer as the ocean always helps my skin....
BTW, what derm do you see? I'm thinking I need to find a different one as I'm not too impressed with this guy's bedside manner. I actually wanted to see if he could work with me on light therapy (because I had success with that in the past) but he pretty much said, let's do this, here's your scrip, see ya in a month.
I know there's someone else from Vegas on here too...maybe I'll post about it.

IL10 shots will clear plague P permanitly.
You can only get one treatment every 3 months or so.
A treatment can only cover a few inches.
I have posted about in some other threads

I just looked up the info on VANOS it said this:
Fluocinonide 0.1% cream was previously approved for twice-daily use in the treatment of adults with plaque-type psoriasis affecting up to 10% body surface area.
Due to a lack of long-term safety data and the potential for suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, treatment should be limited to 2 consecutive weeks at a maximum dose of 60 g per week. Therapy should be discontinued when control of the skin condition has been achieved. A patient's diagnosis may require reassessment if the condition does not improve after 2 weeks.

sounds good two weeks is what they think I cant wait :)
Can you give me the Presciption info like the dose and stuff so I can tell my doctor
Thanks for you post

Hi there!
Problem is, if you want something strong (e.g. topical steroids), it's gonna do a number to your skin with any long-term use. What I know of topicals is that Clobetasol (http://www.tiscali.co.uk/lifestyle/healthfitness/health_advice/netdoctor/archive/100004799.html) is one of the strongest topical steroids out there. With prolonged use, it could cause thinning of the skin (atrophy) which can lead to stretch marks. Olux (http://www.olux.com/) is clobetasol in a different "vehicle" so to speak (foam as opposed to ointment)
A somewhat more mild steroid is Triamcinolone (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a601124.html) (aka TAC) ointment or cream. There is a more mild foam as well (also manufactured by Connetics) which is Luxiq (http://www.luxiq.com/) that is also available.
I have used the ointments on my body and the foams on my scalp and on occasion on stubborn plaques like the elbows & knees, but kept that to a minimum.
Good luck!

The tube I was prescribed says Vanos 0.1%. I didn't know it could do that. Well, it did take the neck area from really, really red to just red; and it controlled the formation of new pustules. I guess a desperate neck needs desperate medicine. I didn't use it on my face, per my dermatologist's instructions.

new to this site but have had P for 30 years. about 20pct covered. Last time I was in Mexico I picked up some Dermatovate ointment. It's the mother load of steroids but has worked MIRACLES for me. Some of the worst areas are totally gone and about 5pct did not go away but is no longer cracked, painful, bleeding or very flakey. I see you can get it in Canada also.

I just got bumped up to this cream for two weeks to control the persistent areas that want to go e-dermic. Seeing good results within 24 hours, but I also had a Kenalog shot so it could be the combination.
It seems to me that the doctor is responsible for knowing the strength and efficacy, and proper usage of these steroid ointments. I follow my dermatologist's directions, and I trust him. He chooses the ointment as appropriate and he isn't going to harm me with these creams. I have a "rule of thumb" when it comes to choosing my doctor. I never return for another appointment if a doctor ever asks me what I want to do. He should know, and if he doesn't, I'll find one who does.

I love it. :D :D I just about peed myself when I read that line. Reminds me of what just happened to me at pain management a few weeks ago. :D I was just asked those same words. :D I was taking Percocet 5/325 MG. 2X6X8 for the past 3 years. Well the meds were no longer effective. Long story short, the DR. asked me what I wanted to try next. I suggested the next strength in Percocet of 7.5 325 MG. 2X6X8 he says how about 10's or better yet let me put you on, Morphine. I thought at first he was just being a wise azz.
Nope, he was dead serious. I told him, look ! I need to knock out my pain, not me. :D
Sorry I got a little off the subject of this thread. To the orig. poster that wanted to know of what type of P. meds I have used or am still using. The best thing to date I have used and is good on you're skin is, Protopic in a 100 gram tube. It does not thin out your skin like some of the other ointments and creams do. I have to warn you though about Protopic, it is not cheap. Without insurance it's $287.00 or at least that is what I would have to pay in my area without INS. :(
I also use, Triamcinolone 0.1% ointment. It also comes in cream, but creams never ever worked for me. I have stubborn plaque P.
I also have, Clobetasol Propionate ointment. USP, 0.05% very, very strong stuff. It works well as I have used it for many years, but it's anything but nice to you're skin. :( I have bad thinning skin today and those nasty looking stretch marks by my arm pits. :(
You might want to find a derm in you're area who will work with you on UVB N.B. treatment. I tried it and only got a little help, mainly with my lower legs. UVB. never touched my lower back, chest, arms or even my upper legs for that matter. It did clear my neck though.
Today I use, Enbrel 50 MG. twice weekly. Been on Enbrel since 11/14/05 with very little results, so I have to use ointments like Protopic to help keep things under control or whatever control my P. & PA have of me.
Sorry for being so long winded. :o
