I have had P for about 12 years now and have about 30% to 40% coverage. On a recent visit to India, I found a dr who said he can 'cure' with herbal medications. With some hesistation, I started the medicines about 3 weeks ago and to my surpirse and joy, the P has started to clear up. BUT, the areas where the patches were present for the longest time, it is itching and burning. I have tried various creams and ointments but nothing seems to help. I am wondering if for other people whose P has cleared, did they go through a period of itching and burning and how they managed to get relief?

I am not sure if this falls into the same category, but before my Enbrel started working, my Psoriasis became worse. I was itching all over and my skin was very dry. As you can imagine, it was not comfortable. One thing I could not do was apply ointment all over me, there was just too much to cover, so I need a cream/lotion type of medication. (Not that the Corticosteroids do not work, they do, but it was too large of an area) Anway, my dermatologist prescribed Triamcinolone acetonide,a mid-strength steriod, which is a lotion. It sure helped me alot during the transition and I could apply it easily. Additionally, it made my skin stop burning/itching.

You might have been talking about an OTC or alternative treatment, but I wanted to share this.

Thanks

I am taking herbal medicines and it looks like the medicines are causing the intense itching and burning. According to the dr, this should subside in a couple of days.

I have read where this is quite common in the healing process.......maybe you should try cutting out somethings that are known triggers ...such as milk and dairy foods, wheat, soy, just to see if it helps...sugar was one of my culprits

another thing that might get you through this itchy period is baking soda baths...get a good book/magazine and read while you soak...it's heaven when itchy! also Benedryl (antihistimine) helps at night (makes you sleepy)

here is a site I like to recommend also...he gives some good tips...

My p psoriasis didn't itch any more when I was clearing. I am 100% clear of the p but stil have the g psoriasis. Try aveeno soap. It helped some with my g itching and I also moisturize before I dry off after a shower and I never have the water real hot. I always take a shower because a bath made my itching worse. Hope you get some relief! Lynne
