Hi ML,

I wanted to wish you luck with your case. Three years is a long time to wait

PA can be very disabiling. There are many people here who have had successful cases with SSDI. I would call the NPF advocacy department tomorrow and see if they can fax some facts/figures and information regarding psoriatic arthritis to you and ask if you will need anything further to help with this.

I thought Psoriasis was considered a disability if it is an extreme example along with PA.

I am pretty sure that folks have won cases with severe psoriasis without the arthrtis.

The poster had said they were filing based on psoriatic arthritis so I answered in kind.

ML,

As Karen notes, the National Psoriasis Foundation can provide you with a packet of materials to support your disability application. Please send me an e-mail with your name and home address if you are interested in receiving a copy.

The packet includes:

1. Tips for presenting a successful disability case
2. Social Security Administration Adult Starter Kit
3. Template letter for physician supporting disability claim
4. Letter of support from the National Psoriasis Foundation describing the disabling nature of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, including materials from the Foundation:
-Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis carry a substantial burden, National Psoriasis Foundation
-Facts about Psoriatic Arthritis, National Psoriasis Foundation
-Facts about Psoriasis, National Psoriasis Foundation
-Horn L. P2833. Psoriasis impacts daily life and carries a substantial burden—National Psoriasis Foundation survey panels. Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. 2006 March; 54(3) (Suppl): AB206.

As you may know in addition to a letter from the Foundation, it can be helpful to have your physician write you a letter of support for your case. Your doctor is best suited to discuss your medical condition and how it has impacted your ability to work. The template letter included in the packet will help your doctor to write a letter for your relatively quickly and easily.

Thank You all so much for your imput. I did call the the Foundation and they are going to send me all kinds of info. I am just wondering what they do at court if they ask you questions or my lawyer. I wonder if they test me for drugs or stuff like that which is fine with me they can do what ever they need. I am just nervous just talking out loud.

Hi and welcome, ML.

I hope that your hearing goes smoothly, and you're able to get the assistance you need and deserve after waiting so long. I'm just in the beginning stages of my disability application, and hoping it doesn't take 3 years in my case, but it's certainly not unusual.

Have you had any kind of a pre-hearing meeting with your attorney? I would think that they should be able to answer many of your questions for you since they have presumably been through this process a number of times. If they haven't already set up such a meeting for you, you may want to call their office to request one, or at least ask the questions that you have. Best of luck to you.

Hi, first let me say best of luck, i know that the process has been long and i am sure frustrating for you.

I had my hearing about a year ago and was approved short after that.

i live in NY, I did have a lawyer with me during the process as well. Although with the odds against me in only being 31 at the time the hearing was not as difficult as i thought it would have been.

the judge will ask you some questions
your treatments to date
work history in brief

a day in your life (what do you do with your time?) can you lift, stand, sit, clean, walk ect....

at which point either you or your lawyer may be answering the questions (pref. yourself.) only reason why i say you should answer is that the judge actually is able to take a visual walk through of your life:

I personally had gotten really emotional during my speech, you never want to consider yourself disabled, and speaking of all my ailments and the emotional, and psych. factor was a bit overwhelming to hear me speak about aloud... I think that the judge truly was able to see a day in my life.

Just another idea as well, i included many photos with my medical records... which seemed helpful as well, it truly gives the judge a look at your coverage and the severity of the disease.

daily P factors for me were:

the pain
the bleeding (key.. no one wants to work with someone who is bleeding at the workplace and with enough scratching mine would and have been)
the tears
the daily routine of meds (if you need to apply ointment 3-5x per day kinda diff to do at the work place.
the scaling, shedding ( i would have to vacuum my chair at work after i stood up.... horrible)

being uncomfortable in the work place (i had P on my hands, so shaking hands, became an issue, as well on my ears not many people would want to use the phone after me..)

the swelling

I am sure you can think of a ton more....

please excuse any spelling errors, late here and wanted to get this out for you

Best of luck to you, stay well.

Hello Everyone, Sorry I haven't written in a while but have been busy. Thank you all so much for all your messages. I have been to court and the judge sent me to see one of there doctors. It was a joke. They didn't let me talk all they wanted was my pills that I was taken and asked me a feww questions. Today Binder and Binder called me and said it will take about 60 day's before the judge get's the report. Hopefully it will be a Happy New Year for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Well I hope everyone is doing well. I will be checking back every now and then. Happy Spring to all!!!!!!!!!!!.

ML I wish you LOTS and LOTS of luck.... I also used Binder and Binder and in my opinion they are the BEST... For my case they really went above and beyond... I would highly, highly, highly, recommened them to anyone fighting for disability. From what I understand though.. I know of some people who have tried to use them and Binder and Binder wouldn't take their case. they have a reputation of the "most successful disability lawyers" so if they don't think they can win your case they have NO problem telling you they won't take it. For me I actually had to wait a few days until they did some research on me before the said yes.... They did everything.... All I had to do was sign some papers. They contacted my doctors, hospitals, etc... got them to write reports and if they didn't they were called and called until they got it done. It took about 3 years for me to finally get approved and I think that if I hadn't hired a lawyer that I would still be fighting. I am keepin my fingers crossed for you that everything goes smoothly and you get apporved..... please keep up updated...
