View Full Version : Pred pak rebound?

Long story short…I started to have aches in a new joint, and my doc prescribed me a predpak to nip this in the bud. I followed it to a T, and felt a bit better. Today is the first day off the prednisone, and I hurt!! All of my muscles hurt, not so much to move, but to touch. Weird muscles, like along my jaw and ribs. And the finger that started it all feels worse than before the predpak!
I’m going to see my doc next week anyway, and I figure I’ll give it a day or two and see what happens before I try to see her sooner, but… I’ve taken predpaks before and never had a rebound response. Has anyone else had this happen? Has anyone (horror to think it!) had a flare worsen after a predpak?

Boy, this new forum organization sure does move questions down the page awfully fast, and I know mine isn't the only one it's happened to :(

When I take prednisone- I can't do the pack- I have to start at a higher dose and do a REALLY slow taper- Hope you figure it out.

Hi Lewislibrarian,
Here's a thread where several people discussed the prednisone dose pack:

I hope this helps.

Predpaks don't help me much. I have to start at a high dose and do a very very slow taper. It took many months to get from 40mg to none. I felt less pain at 5mg than I do now, but I am trying to stay off.

Hi:
I am currently on 9 mg of pred, which is down from the 25 I took over the winter and through the first of the year. I can stay stable at 10 mg. but last time I tapered - by 1 mg every 2 wks - after I was down to 7 mg for a few days I felt horrid. The pain and fatigue were overwhelming, and yes, many aches. So, I went back up to 10 mg., my rheum upped my Humira dose and I am now tapering 1 mg. per month.
I haven't done a short course of pred in a few years, but when I did, for sinus infection, I always felt bad for several days after, I think because it shoots the level up quickly, then tapers just as fast. If you can hang in there for a week and be better, I'd stay away from steroids, because it's so easy to become dependent upon the energy and relief they provide and I am thinking that I'm going to feel a lot worse before I get them completely out of my system. Good luck,
patti
