Does anyone know if there are any health issues using T/Gel daily? I'm using the extra strength. 1% Coal Tar.
Thanks,

No problem what so ever. I use a much stronger coal tar shampoo (MG217) daily and have done so for many years with my doctor's blessing.

I think I saw that shampoo for sale at the drug store. A very dark color I believe. It works good for you? My ScalpP is pretty bad.

I posted in another thread about my scalp and what worked for me so I'm going to copy it over here for you to see.
I'm a huge fan of MG217 coal tar shampoo. My scalp went from 60% or so covered to 0% in seemingly no time at all (this was years ago and the shampoo keeps my scalp under control also).
I use the shampoo 7 days a week and find it most beneficial if I use it in a specific manner. I shampoo first thing when I get in the shower and then immediately rinse. I follow that with a second lather and then let it set while I wash and rinse the rest of my body. The last thing I do before getting out is rinse the second lather so it sets in as long as possible.
When my scalp was bad it cleared it pretty fast.
Coal tar shampoo does not smell all that great, but the results are well worth the smell in my case. MG217 is pricey as far as shampoos go, but it's the only coal tar shampoo that worked that well for me.
The only thing I will add is that I never really had thick scaling with my scalp psoriasis. If you have thick scales you may want to first try to elimate that factor.
Puckertoe,
I'm also a fan of MG 217 shampoo. I tried the t/gel and it didn't do much for me, while I had fast results with MG. My scalp P was so bad at one point that I was losing a scary amount of hair. Luckily it was long and full and I had some to donate to the bathroom floor. I never used it on a daily basis, I found that 2-3 times a week was enough for me. I used it pretty much the way ChaimFL mentioned, leaving it in for as long as possible, but I usually used that time inbetween the shampoo and rinse stage to shave my legs :)
Alli
P.S. I found it to work nearly as well as the expensive scrip shampoo that my derm gave me ( sorry, don't remember the name ).

Hi Puckertoe,
Chaim has already given you some great advice. Here's some additional throughts for you to ponder.
I was first diagnosed with psoriasis way back in 1964. Coal tar treatments were bascially the only treatment that was available back then, so I've been using coal tar for over 40 years. It's not my favorite treatment (i.e., coal tar smells funny, it stains and it brings back some very bad childhood memories) but it's still very much a part of the myriad of weapons that I use in my battle with psoriasis.
I had very bad scalp psoriasis when I was in college. It's not as bad as it was, but I still include Neutrogena/T-Gel in my shampoo rotation. (I've always found that it helps to rotate among several different teatments.) Like Chaim, I also use MG217 (www.mg217.com) coal tar shampoo. I also use Neutrogena/T-Sal (which has salicylic acid in it), a tea tree oil shampoo (i.e., Paul Mitchell or Nature's Gate -- I'll post the links to some additional information about both products later on today), and a prescription shampoo called Capex (www.capexshampoo.com).
Here's a link to a very informative discussion about coal tar: http://www.psorsite.com/coaltar.html.
I hope this helps.
Mike
