Hey all, i mentioned it in my intro post but didn't see meny people checking it out or posting so i thought i should make a thread.

As strange as i find it sounds, i find that eaven without the creams, my p smells, realy bad too... depends how bad i'm flaring that day but all in all it always seems to stink. Does anyone else have this problem? if not i'm obviously doing something terribly wrong....or maybe i have a new form of p, we could call it...Stinky P...original aren't i?

Interesting Thunderwing. I have never noticed an odor from my p. I have plaque p,so it's often dry and scaley. I can't say one way or the other on the other forms of p. I can tell you that when I was doing UVB treatments,I always had a cooked sort of smell. Even after showering,I could smell it. Maybe it was just me,no one ever mentioned a smell, but I always thought it was there.
Good luck, hope you find the answers you are looking for. Just incase I missed your first post, welcome to the boards!

i was just joking around about the new type of p, kinda bored at work and am trying to entertain myself. I'm also a big bleliever in the fact that you must find humour in your suffering or you will live a life without joy.

My derm's have ben more then useless over time i've known it was p, i basicly go see them and ask for what i want, no one has ever told me what kind it is.

This may explain the smell, the psoriasis on my armpits and genitals are rarely closed up, their always torn and raw, no matter how hard i try, or what i do, i'l wake up in the middle of the night and find myself ripping at it, just terring it up. Even when i cut my nails to the point where theirs nothing to scratch with, i still manege to tear it up...

Only time I stunk was when I was on Methotrexate. Whew. Just under the pits but I was afraid to get near anyone as I could smell myself. It was such an awful smell and I am so glad I no longer have that problem. LOLOL. I would come out of the shower, dry off and still could smell it. It never would go away until I quit taking the Meth.

The odor can be stopped with Desitin (the baby ointment) zinc stops odors all over the body...it gets absorbed into the skin and works as a body deodorizer everywhere...it is also great for soothing bloody, scratched up, torn and raw skin.......it's the only thing that ever worked for me with the inverse P (P that is in the warm folds of the skin)

the bonus to using it for healing (not curing) is that it is a deodorant!

Desitin comes in two types of formulas
1.plain at 40% zinc
2. with add in of aloe and a vitamin but only 15% of zinc

the 40% is thick and is water repellant which is good in one way but people on here complained that it was hard to wash off......
a good soak in the tub does the job!

the odor probably comes from the yeast growth in the folds...but I'm not sure!

Just looked it up and this is what I found:
Anaerobic bacteria, which flourish when your body doesn't have enough oxygen, may well be the cause of your body odor. As the body's metabolism goes to work, it gives off odors which is the body's way of ridding itself of waste products.

this is what lifeguards use on their nose to keep the sun from burning them.

also zinc caps are good but make sure you get the ones with copper as you need the balance of the two minerals......
taking zinc capsules acts as a deodorant also but the ointment helps the P...

Dr.Heng a dematologist in CA recommends people with P need zinc...that they are low in this mineral....

good luck......no odor Sal

Hey Thunderwing,

First of all welcome to the boards. It is nice to meet you........ :) I just wanted to say that Sally has given some good advise. Desitin has always worked well for me too... as for the itching you might want to try putting on some cotton gloves before you go to bed, or something like that (don't laugh but oven mits work great to keep you from scratching in your sleep). This will maybe help your skin have a chanse to heal. Also you might want to think about taking something like benadril (sp?) or the like. What worked for me was to take Allegra that my derm gave me. Good luck and keep us posted.

Could you have a fungal thing going? The areas you mentioned are almost always warm, moist and dark which is exactly what a fungus loves. You could try an antifungal like clortrimazole, but I would see a derm as there are combination products (prescription only) that would help with both the P and the fungus if that is what it is. That would also account for the odor you mentioned. Good luck

i was on antifungals for 2 years befor i was told this was p. but a main problem that i have is that i can't use deodarent on my underarms, it alway's agravates the p, think i will try that zink cream, sounds like it will work

bloody, scratched up, torn and raw skin
thats all too true

the odor probably comes from the yeast growth in the folds

yeast? isen't that the bacteria thats used to raise bread? is it normal for that to grow with the psoriasis?

Yeast if a fungus that loves to grow in warm, moist dark places like feet and genitals. Hence, jock itch and athletes foot. I use a lot of nystatin powder on my patients. Helps to dry out moist areas and keeps skin from ribbing together. When you get P in the areas mentioned above, it is not unheard of to get fungus in the cracked areas of the skin.

Dr Heng* says you can have both conditions at the same time....but whatever it is .....Desitin helps....
she Also said no dairy and see how that does....Ice cream, yogurt, milk, 1/2 and 1/2 for coffee (my fav) puddings, etc you get the picture...hard to do but it works!
so I don't have to repeat myself go read the thread on INVERSE OUTBREAK about elasric and how it can cause inverse

LOL you'll adjust!

I've been using this stuff for so long I should have bought stock in the company.....if you want to dilute it a little....you can add an oil, like olive oil or peanut oil, in a separate jar....to see, first how it works.....I have done that for areas on an elbow or thigh....but you have to rub it in more!
I'm so glad you tried it....nothing like hearing good reports on a recommendation!
I've never had it stain any clothing but I'm retired so I can wear old clothes around the house!
It takes hot water and soap to get it off....thats why it is such a good diaper cream....keeps babies butts dry all night long! :p

Sally deserves more that one hug!
I wish others would try some of the things she talks about. They might not clear but I think they would get much better and be more comfortable..

Huge Hugs for Sally!

Thunderwing...you can CAREFULLY try tea tree oil. Especially after the desitin gets you healed up a little.

I would mix the tea tree oil with olive oil or peanut oil from the grocery. (Extra-virgin cold pressed, like Haines.)

It doesn't have the 'color thing' going like desitin, and it is a valuable P reliever, plus an antifungal.

It has it's own odor, but it doesn't really last very long. (The odor) It's a bit like mentholatum.

I wouldn't put it on broken skin tho...and quit if you see any additional irritation, as some folks are allergic to it.

:p

since this stuff worked so amazingly, i'll give that a shot too later on, its just the mixing it with different stuff i'm worried about, are their precise mesurments? as to not over dilute or under dilute

Tea tree oil is pretty strong, and kinda spendy.

So I would mix some in a pint jar or similar container. Probably about 15 to 30 drops to a 1/4 cup of oil. Peanut oil is also anti-fungal and is a good source of vitamin E. (Olive oil is wonderful too...as long as it's fresh.)

Go to a health food store and see if they have small bottles of tea tree oil, so you can experiment.

I used peanut oil for over 6 months when I first got P and was pretty much covered. One quart lasted that long. When I got my P under control, I switched to spendier creams like shea butter and cold-pressed coconut oil, and other lotions.

Check out this site, they have some good prices for tea tree oil. It might be good to try that salve at the very bottom. Also the neem/rosemary is interesting. But these would be a realtively cheap experiment.

I had never realy noticed it until a cowerker pointed out that it looked as tho i had gotten a french manicure...a problem since i'm a dude...

so ya, any idea's on how to get it out?

Hey dude! :)
Use a little spatula.
I have been using creams and ointments so long,,,,,,I got to the point that I could not stand to get it on my fingers. Check any place that sells kitchen stuff.

Works good.
