I'm not sure what section to post this in, so feel free to move it.
I'm sure most of you have read my thread about Stem Cell Transplants for P and how it may be something to think about for the future. This dream, which I had in February 2006, inspired the whole research thing (don't freak out, as I said before I am somewhat...shall we say..."intuitive" :) :
I don't know how old I was, but I kept begging my mom over and over again to take me to do this procedure, and I could feel inside that I wanted to do it really badly.
I was taken to a hospital room and lied down on a bed. They put some kind of needle in my head, near my ear. I passed out, came to and the thing was over. (I think the passing out was due to anasthesia, but I'm not sure). During the whole experience, "Coast to Coast" by Nite Flyte was playing in my head.
After the dream was over, it kept with me the whole day. I couldn't stop thinking about it! What was this mysterious procedure that involved this tube in my neck??? As I was walking through the various buildings at work towards where I meet the shuttle to go home, I thought of this place I will refer to by the code name LSNC.
When I home, I got a letter from LSNC. I almost never hear from them, so this was a surprise. Therefore, I believe that was God or the higher power's way of validating my experience; saying to me that if one psychic intuition came true, than this one also must be for real.
I originally interepreted it as a view of the future where I would donate stem cells through apheresis. People with small veins often have to have a central line in their neck or chest to donate, and I have small veins. However: It is seeming more likely that with my medical history I may not be able to donate (although I will probably talk to them to check for sure). This leads me to my second interpretation:
I now am leaning toward the theory that the dream was showing me that a stem cell transplant may be in the future for me. Recipients can also have a central line to receive the SCT. According to articles I posted in the previously mentioned thread, people have had 100% clearance, with no return of the P over the course of several years.
Patients have been treated with their own stem cells (autologous SCT) and a donor's cells (allogenic SCT). The latter method has been more successful, but at the same time is more risky. I think that once better drugs are created as a prophylaxis for the potentially lethal side effects of allogenic SCTs, then that may be the treatment of choice for people with severe P and perhaps PA as well.
Best,
A.
