Has anyone ever used this product? It's a coverup that matches your skin tone, hides scars and presumably P patches. I'm just curious how effective or ineffective it has been for anyone. I'm currently using regular Almay concealer but I find it does not dry 100%, though it's OK for temporary uses.

PLEASE: No lectures on "how we should not be covering up our P"! There are times when I feel this is necessary.

THANKS

It is clear liquid that dries to a film over the P keeping germs at bay I suppose...I have used it over a few topicals I have tried and it does keep them on longer....I didn't notice anything amazing about it. I think a study, funded by NPF, was done by a Dr. Feldman....don't know the outcome tho!

Paco,

No lectures here! :)

While I haven't used it I hear that it works fab.

Perhaps you could write them and ask for a sample?

Also, this link might be worth a read....if your using topicals.

Hi Paco,

We haven't heard from most of the people, who've mentioned using Dermablend, in quite a while so there's a pretty good chance that they won't see your post. That being said, here's the links to some previous discussions:

I hope this helps.

P.S. You'll never get a lecture about covering up from me! I'll be 50 in December and I have friends -- since kindergarten -- who've never seen me in shorts!

I think Sally confused Dermablend with Dermal Advantage.

I used the liquid make up when I got Rosacea. It felt very thick and heavy. Made my face feel hot. The remover did not do a good job.

I was lucky,,,,,the store gave me my money back. If you want to try it,,,ask before you buy,,,,,can you get a refund.

My cheaper Revelon(age defying) does a better job for me.

Occasionally, I have a flare-up that may include the area above my upper lip and below my nose (moustache area). Also, sometimes along my jaw line. I've found Dermablend to be perfect for covering up these areas quicky and with a minimum of fuss or time.

Being a guy- I wasn't too cool on the idea of make-up, but it has been a really effective cover-up- and noone can seem to tell I'm wearing it. BTW, it's also not bad for any dark areas under the eyes that come with age, lack of sleep etc. Takes a few years off your face. Definitely worth a try.

Hi there Paco,

As someone who was plagued with recalcitrant sebopsoriasis, which directly affected my face---in particular the forehead and jawline---I know exactly what you mean. I personally found Dermablend to be very caky. Didn't like it at all. I went to Filene's and an extremely pleasant aesthetic consultant helped me out. I told her that I wanted something light, not caky, waterproof, and low maintenance. She showed me several products and we found that Lancome's Effacernes worked best. It is a an undereye concealer that goes on nicely and stays too. This product blends very well on the face.

It is a little pricey, but a little bit of it goes a very long way. It was useful when I was having a hard time. I discovered some culprits and triggers since then and I have not found any need to use it again. But it sure is nice to have a tool when it is needed.

Best,
Serge

I agree with the poster above me. Effacernes is the best concealer out there. I just use it for undereye circles, but one little tube has lasted me a whole year!! It is worth the $30 for a quality concealer.

I spent a lot of money on dermablend and it was too cakey and didn't work for me.

You may want to avoid putting it under the sensitive eye area, especially since Dermablend is a very heavy makeup. You could wrinkle that area pretty fast.

BTW I'm a guy too, and used a bit of cover up from time to time. My choice at the time was Clinique continuous coverage after I had some surgery that left some redness/marks and no one knew.

The only thing is you have to be sure the area being covered is really smooth otherwise it makes the area look a lot worse. (moisturize moisturize moisturize, and in the case of P peel peel peel)

Depends on your P, I think. I used Dermablend for a short period when my P was just red marks on my face...worked very well. It was when the P became full-on plaques that it made it look worse....had to do with how dry and thick the make-up itself was, and putting it on over thick scales.

On the plus side, it never hurt, stung, etc.

Go to your major department store (I found it at my local Dillards), and ask to try it in the store.

If you've got full on plaques, I'd go the route of major moisturization to get the hard plaques off and reduce it to just the red/pink baby skin underneath, and THEN put on the DermaBlend or whatever you choose to use.

Luck!

Paco,

I've used Dermablend for years. I've never used the liquid foundation, but a tiny jar of the concealer will last for years! I don't find that it's cakey at all, and I'm pretty picky about any makeup that I use. I prefer very sheer, non-oily foundation. I use it mostly to cover under-eye dark circles, and a couple of broken capillaries on my face, nothing really major.

I was at the Dermatology convention in San Diego about a month ago, and Dermablend had a booth there. I stopped by to tell them how much I loved their product, and they gave me samples of all the different colors of the concealer. They all came together on a card, but individually bubble packed.

What shade skin do you have? If it's not fair (as I'll use the samples for these :) ), I'd be more than happy to cut these samples off the card and send them to you, if you can't find a sample anywhere. You're welcome to all of the darker colors if you can use them! Just let me know.
Sue :)

Paco,
I am not familiar with the cover up you are asking about however I've been using Bare Minerals for six years on my P covered face. It is pure. No nothing in it except minerals from our earth. It provides coverage, naturally provides a SPF of 15 that when layered, provides 15 SPF per layer. AND...after wearing it all day (and to bed if you want) makes my skin feel like it just had a facial. Certainly you don't have to have P to use it, I sure love what it does for my skin and makes me beautiful as well. I love this stuff and can't wait to use.

My face was covered with P in 1999-2001. Many of the makeups on the market (foundations and cover-ups) stung when applied and if I got adaquate coverage it was painful to remove as it took some scrubbing. Not with Bare Minerals. It goes on with a soft brush and washes off with any cleanser you wish to use.

PS. Thank you for the response you gave to my introduction.

Oh Housebound! :D

That stuff rocks!! JodyGK uses bare minerals and told me about it. :) ohhhhhhh the radiance of it... I purchased some for my daughter ( she doesn't have p and I hope she never does ) for Christmas last year, it was a bit on the expensive side BUT it's lasts a very long time :) .
