Hi everyone. I wrote on 10/29, just a few days after being diagnosed with p. I have plague p and guttate p. Last time I wrote, I asked about some help with prescription costs. Well, the update there is that I called the derm and asked them for alternatives. Instead of the six name brand products, they dropped me down to two generic products and Tazorac to start my treatment slowly. Not only did they save me a TON (Down from $300 total to only $50!), but that made me feel better to not put so many steroids and such strong strengths -- strong strengths?? :).

Now I'm using fluocinolone acetonide solution for my scalp and triamcinolone acetonide cream for my body along with Tazorac for my big patches.

So, my update is that I have incorporated a couple more OTC options, including phisoderm bar soap, T-Gel shampoo and exfoliating the guttate patches about once a week.

The thickness of the plagues are down and are scaling less. My guttate is still red and itchy, but it seems that the spread has slowed and it's even regressed a little on my arms since using the cream at least two times a day. I am still trying to make my diet more healthy -- drinking more water, trying to eat more fruits and veggies.

I have come to realize that I had minor p for about three years now as I think back to what looked like razor burn on my thighs, discolored and thick toenail which doc. said may be a fungus -- now I think might be p of my nail, and other things that are making me see that I've had this for a while, but it never was bad enough to talk to the doctor about. (I'm blaming this large flare which has brought out my true (red and itchy colors) on high stress and strep throat.

I just wanted to say that I'm so glad that this board is here. I'm still trying to figure out most of what p means to me and I enjoy coming here to talk about what's working for us (and what's not). As a matter of fact, I was just scrolling through the threads and found the one on watermelon. One of my favorite fruits -- I think I'll give that a try too!

Anyway, just thought I'd update you on my 10th day after diagnosis.

Glad to hear you found some alternatives that are helping and are affordable! Bad enough to have the problem w/o becoming broke as a joke trying to deal with it!!

coming to terms with p was the hardest part of the p experience for me. it sounds as if things are going nicely for you - for that i am glad.

yes! stick with that anti-inflammatory diet - it makes you feel sooo good (makes you eat more foods that make you feel good; helps your refrain from the ones that make you feel like crap). perhaps had a vitamin/nutrient supplementary plan to it.

if you haven't read this thread yet (and you're interested in alternatives) - read it!:

best wishes for your new p,

The floucinolone worked well for my son's scalp p so I hope you have the same results. I'm glad you were able to get what you need without going broke, and I'm glad you are seeing improvment!.
