tea tree oil? eeek it does cause distress if not diluted with something....try aloe if you have it ...it is soothing and I would wash the tea tree oil off for now! In fact I believe they warn against open wounds use!
p.s. petroleum jelly might help

I feel your pain! My left palm had been acting up with the skin reddening and cracking along the creases. I've tamed it down in recent weeks using the following treatment:
1. Soak your hand in warm water for a few minutes. Pat dry.
2. Apply Skin Plaque (or P medication which contains salycilic acid) on the affected area.
3. Coat your hand in some soothing skin cream with a petrolatum base like Eucerin.
4. slip on a surgical glove (non-latex) and wear it as long as you need. Overnight, or during the day even.
I'll always wear workgloves over my surgical gloves if I have to work with anything outdoors, for yard work, or manual work of any kind.
I've had much relief, and the inflamation seems to be coming under control, for now.
Good Luck!
