Well, the thyroid meds did nothing for me. I took for two weeks and despite being encouraged initially, no help in P.

I'm trying the circumin these days and the soft water approach. I put the water purifier salt tablets in my bath water. The scaly spots are not so scaly and the small spots seem to be diminishing.

I hope the salts keep helping.

I am still taking my thyroid medicine...that I started in late Sept...but it is not an option for me to stop...according to my Dr.

I am still using Psorolin however...and I am seeing progress from that...as far as I can tell.

Smooth skin is a wonder! Even if I have to keep it oiled up regularly.

Hi all

I have had an under active thyroid since I was 9 and have been on thyroxine ever since. I have had P since I was 18 and PA for 3 years. I am now 38 and no one has ever said there was any link between them. Unless it is just because they are all auto immune disorders.

I dont really see how thyroid medication would help but if you have any further info I would be interested.

I am glad you both seem to be getting relief from your treatments.

Love Kay

What thyroid hormone were you taking? Some people require the active thyroid hormone T3 (i.e. cytomel) or a combination of T4 & T3 (i.e. Armour thyroid). Synthroid (T4) is often prescribed, but some people have problems converting it to T3 (T4 must pass through the liver first) and therefore do not get their metabolism properly regulated.

Me too Chenai...but I just had the blood lab to see if I am converting the T4 to T3. I was taking the cytomel 2 years ago. It sure was spendy by comparison to synthroid.

I asked my new naturopath (my old one moved) about Armour and he said that if your body uses synthroid well...it works just fine. So I'm having the follow-up labs to check it all out.

I'll know pretty soon I guess.

I've been on Armour thyroid since I talked to a pharmacist at an art fair...he was my neighbor (he was working the booth for the Jaycees) :p anyway during slow periods we would talk....I asked him the difference between Armour and Synthroid (my doctor wanted me to take Armour but I said let me try Synthroid ) which is what I was on! he said that with Synthroid you get the one hormone whereas with the Armour you get the full regalia...minute hormones that acording to him may be important in the long run....So when I went to the Dr. next time I told her to put me on Armour Thyroid! that was over 6 years ago...at least!
It was shortly after first getting Pernicious anemia, then diagnosed with under active Thyroid, that I got psoriasis (while on Dr. Atkins diet ...lots of beef!!!) the funny thing is ...I belonged to an Atkins forum and there were several of us that came down with psoriasis....I never connected the high protein with P til I started checking out inflammatory foods... jeeze talk about cutting your own throat.......I did, all on my own.......... ;)

Wow Sally! A link between a high protein diet and P. Perhaps you could provide a link so we can read that forum were others developed P while on a high protein diet.
My P got bad while on a vegan diet, makes one wonder.

sorry :p that was over 6 years ago...and it was my experience (and a few others....) as I explained....
do you know how to use google? Just wondered you're always asking for links :D
The best way is to use as few words as possible but make sure they get to the "meat" of the subject!

for instance: B12 psoriasis=391,000 hits

or high protein psoriasis=1,140,000 hits

Dont let it overwhelm you Ali. Once you learn how to use search engines, it will become faster, so you wont need to spend all your time searching. Keep trying , you'll get it. :)

one thing many people are not aware of is soy and how any one with hypo thyroidism should avoid it like the plague.....because the soy isoflavones limit the cells' ability to receive thyroid hormones.

and it isn't easy to avoid...pick up any processed food and most likely you will find soy somewhere in the ingredients! all mayos, most breads...(get a bread maker) cookies, cakes, boxed foods, even trail mix....walk down your aisle in the super market and check labels...it is every where....

this is where I first learned about soy and it's dangers.....

Holy smokes! I started drinking soy milk months ago when I was having diarrhea up to 18 times a day. That was finally diagnosed as collagenous colitis - my body was laying down a layer of collagen under the lining of the colon preventing absorption of fluid and it had nowhere else to go but out. This was only discovered by biopsy during colonoscopy. Cause: diflocenac - or arthrotec (with coating to protect tummy) or Voltaren (without coating).

I began having low thyroid problems before that but the docs noticed the thyroid got got remarkably worse immediately upon me starting soy milk and added cytomec to my synthroid.

I see my endocrinologist on Thursday and I'm definitely asking him about the connection. I was finding products wherever I could - milk, cheese, etc - that were made from soy. Geesh. Thanks loads for the warning!!

you're welcome and good luck....maybe you should print this out for your doc? and by all means google for more info...
just go to google.com and put in the words ....soy thyroid.........see what you get!

good luck! and pass the word around...there aren't too many people that know this...unfortunately
(Including many doctors)

I saw my endocrinologist and asked about the connection between soy and thyroid. He said that soy products definitely affect the thryoid. However, they can adjust the meds around the soy. Since all I'm having is a bit of milk and yogurt, it's not a huge big deal. If I were taking supplements, they'd probably advise me to stop them. Just wanted y'all to know what he said.
