I'm scared that this is a PA Symptom?!

Last night I noticed that I had a hive-type swelling thing on my right forefinger. It itched and felt kind of numb, but I get these little hive-type things now and again, so I ignored it.

Today, it is still swollen and kind of itchy and kind of numb, but ALSO my finger is aching when I make a fist or bend it downward. It also seems sore near the base of my palm near my thumb. Now I am a little worried.

I have not had symptoms of PA before, to my knowledge -- is this one? I have had significant nail changes in the last 3 months so I am kind of assuming PA is just the next step here?

I'm also 3 weeks into Enbrel and not really noticing any improvement in my skin -- seems to be continuing to spread. Can Enbrel induce PA symptoms?

Could it be water retention? My fingers swell quite a bit when I've got extra water weight.

Also when I do high intensity cardio exercise my extremities--both hands & feet--swell sometimes, especially in humid weather.

I've never heard of this being a symptom but I'm not a dr.

i dont think the enbrel should cause PA symptoms, but if you are having hives, in more than just a small area, i would contact your doc right away as you may be having a reaction
if just on hand/finger, may be several things

classic swelling is sausage like, my fingers feel like i wear gloves a few sizes too small so often numb and tough to close all the way in the knuckles, mine unless really bad never looked sausage like as i am lucky enough to have most of my joints rather than a couple involved

I wouldn't say it's quite "sausage like" yet, but the whole finger is rather swollen and hurts whenever I bend it. Do PA symptoms come on very suddenly? The whole thing is pretty weird. I don't think it's a bug bite!

i was just hoping about the bite cause pa sucks, didnt mean to come off too inappropriate-sorry

yes PA can come on sudden, and it sounds suspicious, even more so if in 1 or 2 fingers, as if was whole hand, maybe soft tissue swelling might cause this ...
until getting checked out by your doc, would recommend taking some alleve for inflammation (whatever the cause) if you tolerate it

Well, thanks -- I'd say the itchy swelly sore feeling is spreading to my thumb now, too, and the very base of my thumb. I guess I will just wait and see if it goes away by tomorrow. After the way my p has spread MASSIVELY in the last 3-4 months, I am about ready for anything to happen, and expecting the worst. :-( But I will try to keep a positive attitude....
