I have PA and am wanting to learn more about the condition. I live in Germany and was in Chicago visiting my family and took the opportunity to visit with a Rheumatologist, he confirmed my suspicions about my symptoms and spoke with me at length about PA (I was grateful for his time, having had my share of 15 minute Specialist who have no time and want to immediately medicate). Up to this point in time I have been focusing on alternative medicines, Omega, Glucosamine and the like. I am reluctant to take the pills he prescribed (Indomethacin) but started yesterday. I NEED to learn more so I CAN do everything possible to help myself, to fight the good fight, I know I know a bit dramatic but I don't care.

What can any one tell me about muscle pain in the shoulder and neck area, has anyone experienced this symptom? Is this common for PA?

What types of exercising has anyone been doing, I started swimming and although sometimes painful in the beginning, I feel super after. Any other suggestions? I've been reading about active lifestyles and exercise is important to combat this disease.

Alternative medicines, has anyone been trying anything alternative to control or halt the inflammation?

I love FOOD and love everything that is not good for me. Can anyone who has changed their diet and has experienced results share their story with me?

I appreciate any bits of information anyone can share. Everything in my life right now is new, although I'm learning a great deal it all can be a bit stressful and scary. I'm back in my new country Germany and my new husband and my new language and new surroundings, and NOW yet another something new, PA.

peace,

Hi,

Here is a good place for you to start reading about PA;

http://www.psoriasis.org/about/psa/

This would include safe alternatives.

I've taken nsaids in the past to help my pa, they don't slow the possible progression or possible joint damage that can occur with PA. I did find them helpful tho. Indomethacin from what I understand can upset your stomach as can any other nsaid, you might want to ask your rheumatologist ( and I would get one in Germany if I was there ) for either prilosec, prevacid nexium or something to protect gastro issues.

That said, not everyone progresses or has joint damage. What you would like to do is PREVENT this from happening.

There is no solid evidence showing who will progress with PA. So it's important no matter what type of treatment you decide on to be followed for changes. Early changes can be seen on x-ray....
