I entered my last message about Tazorac maybe triggering my psoriasis, and I ws told that I might be in denial. At first I thought "NO I am not, I am completley aware that I have this disease" But then I realized that though I may not be in actual denial, in a way, maybe I kinda am. I mean, I know I have it, but I am so young (22) and it is just very hard. When I was younger I had trouble with acne and now that it has started to clear up, I get psoriasis. Plus, for the last couple of years, anytime I get hot or sweat I break out in hives that itch terribly. I just feel let down on my bad days, but I do have a lot of good days, because over all my life has many blessings. Anyway, I am going to an allergist next week. After reading some of your postings about going to see an allergist and it helping, it gave me some hope because I do have some bad allergies and maybe that is trigering the flare ups. It is hard when I lay down at night to sleep because I am so tired and all I can do is claw at my head because it itches so bad! I am scared that my hair will fall out, have any of you guys had this happen????
Anyway, thank goodness for this site and for people that understand, because my husband thinks this is no big deal since I was just recently diagnosed and he can see it that much since it is mostly under my hair. He doesn't understand how depressing and misserable this is. Thanks again for all of your support!

Hi sweetie,

I am so sorry you are feeling so badly, but it sounds like you've had a necessary reality check, and that is good.

I had horrible ( full body ) p at your age, and I remember all of my thoughts and feelings from that time very well. Here are some things you need to do:

1. Keep coming here for support and information.

2. Have a good dermatologist you can trust and talk to.

3. Find a psoriasis support group in your area, join, and ATTEND REGULARLY.

4. Find a medical therapist and make at least 3 appointments, and keep them.

Your husband will never know what you experience the way others with psoriasis can. You need to have that contact for several reasons. In addition, if he is around your age, it is possible that through little fault of his own he lacks the maturity to be very supportive of your medical situation right now.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to meet your needs someplace else on this important issue. That doesn't mean your marriage is necessarily lacking, no person can be all things to another. He will grow up, given the inclination, time, and opportunity. Maybe once you connect with a support group, he can benefit as well.

Good luck, and please follow through with my suggestions, they will help.

Have you tried Luxiq foam for your scalp P? My daughter has it severely on her scalp and lately that and her torso seem to be the only real trouble spots for us. It takes a about a week for her scalp to clear when she has a flare up, but I think that's because I use the Luxiq sparingly on her because she is so young(8 years old). Forewarning though there is a lot of flaking when the clearing starts but the blow dryer takes care of that for us and it only lasts for a day or so. As far as her hair falling out, yes it is. It's not in handfuls or anything but after she showers and we are brushing it, I can literally pull full 5 to 10 strands out by just grabbing a section and running my fingers through it with practically no effort. Her peditrician diagnosed it as telegon effluvuim which is basically female pattern baldness according to webmd.com. I'm thinking it's probably more from the p. but what do I know? I hope my slight knowledge about p helped you some and I can also relate to how you feel as far as this site is concerned. I have also found much comfort here where people really know what you're going through. Take care and good luck finding something to work for your scalp, let me know if the luxiq' works for you.

Interested to hear the results from your allergy test. Hopefully it helps minimize the outbreaks.

For my scalp I use t-gel w/ some results..but as winter sets in, up north where i live, my scalp got very bad. Many years ago I tried a Aveda product that helped alot. But I could never remember the exact name of the shampoo. Well, guess what at my last hair cut the styliist suggested a product by Paul Mitchell called TEA TREE shampoo. She cracked open the bottel and I took a wiff of it and knew..THIS IS THE STUFF!!. It smells like pepermint or spearmint gum. I,ve been using it for bout 3 weeks now. I'll do t-gel 1 day then 3 days TEA TREE and my scalp feels GREAT..i havent really looked hard at my scalp to see if the red patches are gone. But i dont really care The itching is totally gone, and i know my scalp has improved(no flakes). And that is no small accomplishment is these harsh dry winters here in WISCONSIN. Also take into account the my P on my skin has gotten much worse{untreated} as my scalp got BETTER.

hope this helps
keep your chin up.I know its hard.

Hi,
We almost have the same treatment for our
P. scalp problem. I also alternate shampoos.
T-Gel is a life saver. I also found a Loreal
procuct at the beauty supply house. It is called Nature's Therapy. Scalp Relief.
I alternate between the two, my trick is about 5 minutes before I shower I massage the shampoo into my scalp. This penetrates any p. areas. My scalp is almost totally clear now. I recently founda a great tea tree conditoner also.

The best thing I did for myself, was stop using medicated shampoos. I am 21 and was losing hair all the time. I was getting worried that I would lose it all. I was reluctantly using medicated stuff and suffering with the stinging and burning. I swiched to a shampoo nad conditioner with 46% magnesium chloride, which is the main component of the Dead Sea salt. It has helped me improve, but it is not gone yet. You can find out more about getting the shampoo and treating whole body psoriasis with Dead Sea salts at www.mavena.com. There is a clinic in a northern suburb of Chicago, IL and they are plannin to expand to other states, as soon as they know that this on is successful. They are already very successful in Europe. Feel free to contact me for info.

I am new to the miserable world of p. About a week ago my scalp started itching, too, in addition to the spots all over my body. I tried a Dead Sea salt mud pack last night, it felt nice but this morning the itching and flaking are just as bad. Thanks for suggesting Tea Tree shampoo. Love the oil for scrapes and cuts, maybe the shampoo will help! Take care, amp

when my scalp was bad... the only reason i lost a lot of hair was because i would pick and peel dime sized flakes off that patches of hair were attatched to!

it was horrific but it was fun chasing my mom around with crusty patches of hair

but anyway... yeah you shouldnt have to worry about hair loss if you dont pick it and if you use good stuff on it... i used t/sal

My hair never fell out in clumps but when my scalp gets very red/plaqued and the flare up is really bad i notice a lot more of my hair falls out. The doctor said it was from the psoriasis and irritation. We then change the medicines and my hair loss stops when the clearing starts. I understand the scratching at night. It's a relief for me to lay down and scratch my head like crazy after dealing with the itching all day and being unable to scratch for fear of plaques showing on my clothing or in my hair.

I'm using the same --- alternating with tea tree and T-Gel. I've been using the tea tree for about 2 weeks and my scalp is improving!
