I guess that's why I'm so confused. I haven't been dx'd with PA. I have PP on my hands and feet. So why would he give me Naproxen? Isn't it the same thing as Flexeril? He told me my back pain was muscle related. So what does that mean if the Naproxen works? That I have PA? Sorry for all the questions, I'm really concerned and my Dr's office doesn't reopen until next Monday. Any thoughts????

Naproxin is an anti-inflammotory. (NSAID) It would be good for sore muscles too.

I was on Naprocin but it did not work for me I am using Indocen and it works well. It is stronger but takes the edge off most of the time. I have noticed it makes me sleepy but not being in as much pain is worth it. I have P and PA. There are many types of pain and anti inflamatory meds out there just keep trying till you find what works best for you.

I tried Naproxen. Couldn't take it because it flared my IBS, in fact , I can't take any traditional NSAID's for that reason. I use Celebrex (a Cox2 anti-inflammatory) for my PA.

I didn't know that NSAID's were used for muscle inflammation as well, although thinking about it now, it does make sense. If your doc hasn't diagnosed you with PA, don't jump to conclusions. PA is usually joint related, although it can affect the tendons as well. Maybe your back muscles just need a rest...Hey, it's a good reason to take it easy for a few days!;)

There are only a few NSAID's that might trigger a flare...Indocin comes to mind.

Naprosyn is usually the first choice for NSAID for PA. Your doc knows what he is doing. Take it like he says and don't wait until you hurt because it takes an hour or more to start working.

Flexeril is a muscle relaxer, a mind bender of unknown benefit.

I used to could run off the list but NSAID's include ibuprofen, Naproxen (naprosyn), Indocin, Feldene, relafen, voltaren, ketoprofen, and about a dozen more. I am back to good ole ibuprofen now but Indocin, Voltaren and Clinoral were the ones that gave me relief for more than a few months. You have many NSAID's out there to try....when one stops, go back and try another.
