I have read reports that a tablespoon of flaxseed oil taken daily will improve the P condition. Anyone have experience here?

Hello,

I am currently taking flaxseed oil supplements. In conjuction, I am taking borage oil, cod liver oil and evening primrose oil. A total of 8 grams per day.

Anyway, I have been taking them for 2 months and the lesions became flatter and softer. I recently started Dovonex and Cormax to clear the lesions, but I believe without the tough skin, the medication can absorb easier. I'm already starting to clear.

I have not read that taking the oil can harm you. So, what have you got to lose?

I'm taking Flax Seed Oil along with Fish Oil. It's been around 6 months now and I have not noticed any improvements in my Psoriasis.

I have tried Flaxseed oil and fish oil, 1000mg twice a day for over a year and have NOT noticed any improvements in my Psoriasis. I am now going to try freshly ground flaxseed and see what happens.

I'm thinking about trying either Fortified Flax supplement or
the Sea Cucumber pill.

Has anyone tried these, and if so how are the results?

I've been on steroid and Dovonex creams for 3 yrs and am tired of the infrequent results.

I took flaxseed oil in pill form (not the actual oil), but i coudn't stand the discusting burps that would come along w/ it. I took Green Tea Extract for about a year, and I did see results. I also sprayed green tea (the actual tea) on my skin and sat out in the sun. That also thinned my psoriasis. I haven't been able to do that in a while, because during the sunny part of the day, i'm at work! Also, at Kohls (i'm not sure if you have a Kohls store around you) they have a VERY good green tea lotion and body wash. Green Tea is actually good for a lot of things, and since heart trouble runs in my family, i decided that it wouldn't hurt to take it (killing 2 birds w/ one stone)...
I've heard that black tea is even better than green... so i'm going to look into that as well....

Thanks! Green Tea must be a catch all. I will definetely give that a try. Did you notice normal skin thinning too, or just the psoraisis?

I do have Kohls near by and should look in to that.

no, didn't notice any problems w/ the rest of my skin.
Green Tea is great, it's high anti-oxidents.
You can apply it to your skin--the only problem is, you smell like a huge tea bag! I think combined (taking the pill and spraying it on) really helped. It didn't "get rid of it" of course... but i did see results!

Let me know if it works for you!

Where can you purchase all of these products??

Flaxseed and Fish Oil can both be purchased at Walmart! Very cheap too!

I am taking both as part of BARNEY'S FORMULA. Along with the other supplements I have seen a great deal of improvement!! You may want to think about add the other supplements and see what happens. I am not sure taking the two oils by themselves would help show clearning.
GOOD LUCK!

When I took Flax Oil I was taking 2T morning and night. But I was also doing some other things so I'm not sure how much the oil was repsonsible for my results.
I started out taking pills but after reading about equivalents, it would have taken 14capsules to equal 1 Tablespoon!

I have tried both Omega 3 Fish Oil and Flaxseed Oil for many months with no improvement of my P or PA.

I was taking it a few years back for something else, but it seemed to help ~ I had nice looking skin anyway.

What you have to also take into consideration is people’s lifestyles.

Two people with P could be taking it.

One person has a fairly healthy diet and a relaxed lifestyle, so it helps them.

The other person eats junk food and has a highly stressful job. So these aspects would counteract anything good they are doing.

you need to take twice or three times that amount daily. try 9k mg.
when i took that amount of flax my P patch softened slightly. I discontinued do to digestive issues.

I do 6000mg of Fish oil and 2000mg of Flaxseed oil in the morning with about a 1/2 cup of plain oatmeal. I haven't had flavored belch issues since I started the oatmeal with the capsules.

hi all
just elucidating my experience...
I have had good success when I started taking grounded flax seeds instead of capsules. Of recent I have started taking the oil. I believe that the brand is very important, since I have read a lot of critique about the dependence of effectiveness of flax on the way they are processed.
I have had the same experience with fish oil, the moment I gave up a cheap brand and started taking an expensive (hence more pure, and higher omega3 content) one, I had a tremendous alleviation of P.
I think flax oil and fish oil are the best natural treatments for psoriasis, I have ever come across. As we all know they have high omega3 content and are hence the best anti-inflammatory agents. They form the core part of Barney's formula too.
I have heard that omega3's from animal source are more effective.
Also have heard about the side effect of excess flax seed oil, causing prostate troubles; would urge those with concerns, to look more into it.

Definitely the ground seed or the raw oil is way better than the caps. And yes, brand and grade are of some importance. Often the caps will have vitamin E oil in them as well for a preservative, just like fish oil.

MC? Even if a person's diet is horrendous and they smoke and drink, flax should still show some improvements in the skin lesions. It won't make them clear completely, for most everyone, but it will help.

I use at least some ground flax when I bake bread (every other day) and often just make a flax-seed bread.

If your stomach can handle it, 1/4 cup of raw oil mornings and evenings is a good way to get a handle on lessening skin lesions, and once you see results, back off to 1 or 2 tablespoons each morning and evening.

Never buy more raw oil than you can use in about two weeks, or it will go rancid on you. Always refrigerate it for storage.

I guess I am in the minority here because flaxseed oil literally cured my psoriasis. I started taking a tablespoon of Barlean's about a year ago. I noticed thinning and itch relief within days. Within 6 months my plaques were gone. I have been very sporadic with the oil since - I guess just laziness - and I am amazed because some of my most stubborn plaques have not returned. A few spots are showing signs of return though so I just bought another bottle of Barleans. I hate the taste and I do have some stomach upset with each dose - but I will tolerate these the rest of my life if it continues to keep my psoriasis under control.

I have found that putting oil (olive or almond) in liberal amounts ON my skin (armpits and groin where my psoriasis is mainly present) has brought about a very noticeable reduction in patches of psoriasis. For the first time for years I have no sign of it at all under my arms and very little elsewhere.

I suspect that my sweat was something to do with exacerbating the condition (this is why it gets worse when I am stressed) and that the oil provides a barrier of some sort.

I apply it all over my skin, morning and evening, and so far (after about 6 weeks) I am very encouraged by the results. Fortunately it is a very cheap and safe (as far as I know) 'treatment'.

I take flaxseed oil supplements and get as much natural sunlight as I can. I notice significant improvment from this combination..

It was about three years ago that I was in the middle of light treatment, making progress and doing well. Suddenly I was in the middle of a massive flareup. It was out of control. I had to quit the light treatment and was very desperate. My dermatologist began a two month trial of weird topicals that didn't work and which I hated (coal tar and more). Ultimately I was three weeks away from taking MTX and still flaring madly.

At the same time, I was doing an intense weight loss program and wondered if I was missing some basic nutrients. I tried adding back some helpful fats and began taking evening primrose oil 1000mg x 3, flaxseed oil 1000mg x 3 and lecithin 1200 x 3 plus some milled flaxseeds probably 10 to 20 grams.

The flare stopped and I cleared rapidly and was very clear in three weeks. I avoided taking MTX! I have never gotten completely clear and use dovonex and halobetasol. I've recently quit taking lecithin with no side effects.

For me, the results were very dramatic. I recall reading that flaxseed and similar sources of Omega-3 augment topical ointments and are a good combination. If so, that may be the effect that I saw.

Hi, WJhauber, was the flaxseed oil you took capsules, or oil to be taken by spoonful? What kind of lecithin did you take?

My experience has been very good with flaxseed oil. I first starting taking 1 tbsp. flax oil mixed with cottage cheese every night before bed about 9 yrs ago (when my diet was terrible). It made a huge difference in the redness and itching. I have also discovered (by accident) that it helps me heal faster from sunburn.

Over the years I have improved my diet considerably from when I first started taking the flaxseed oil. I would say now that I don't think the flax oil is making as much of a difference, although it is still significant enough that I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.
