Hi Michelle,

As a child, we were brought up on a daily dose of good old Cod Liver Oil. Even with all of that fish oil, I still had adolescent onset of severe psoriasis and pa.

As an adult, I continued the practice during the winter months when I lived in cold weather, altogether maybe 16 years. However, I was looking for a boost to my immune system, not expecting ( or getting ) any relief from the psoriasis.

Hello Michelle,

I have been taking Triple Cod Liver Oil (3g daily)and have found it to be helpful. I don't have the scale or itch. I also take 2g borage oil, 2g flaxseed oil and 2g primrose oil as well. I can't say it's a cure all. But I find that it helps keep my skin soft. It takes a few months to see and feel a difference.

I also work out a lot and I feel it has helped my overall well being. They are supplements that have antioxidants and Cod liver oil has vitamins A and D.
Gives me the fats I need as well as help me maintain lean muscle.

I may be taking too many oils - but talk to your dr about a healthy way to take them. I also got some great information on http://www.webmd.com Use the keyword field to search and do some reading.

Hope this helps -
Kelly

I take salmon oil capsules high in omega3 with no results. I found flaxseed oil raised my blood pressure for some reason.

I just started taking Omega 3 Fish Oil. Everyone kept telling me about it aiding joints. I hope it does, but even so I know it is good for my cholesterol. Not many of these "cures" you can say that about!

Fish oil is good stuff. There are scholarly journals on the subject. My recommendation is to google fish oil and psoriasis (or one or the other). You will find a scholarly section devoted to the topic. Scholarly journals as you know is not about advertising a particular product. Its just pure science report. With that said you will find a section on psoriasis and fish oil that mentions the product "Mega EPA" emulsufied fish oil. Twinlab makes that product (and may have financed the research, who knows). However the doseges injested may not make the best economic sence. So do comparison shopping such as I have. Stick with reputable manfactures that manufactures thier product with all contaminants removed. Do the research! Once you've narrowed your choices, add the DHA and EPA levels and divide them by the cost of the product. Once done then injest the levels of fish oil that is mentioned in the report. You will get the most Omega 3's possible per dose and save money at the same time. This is not my idea but that of "Zone" author Barry Sears. I am not a smart guy by any stretch of the imagination, but such a method mentioned makes sence. A side note: read his book "Anti-inflamation Zone". The book does not speaks of P (well, two sentences actually) but it will tell you the dangers of taking too much Omega 3 as well as its benefits. And no you don't have to purchase the authors fish oil product. LOL! By the way folks, this is my first post ever!!! How did I do? Ecomony of words I do not have I am sure you will agree. LOL.

There are many good uses for fish oil, in fact I'm taking Flaxseed oil now in lieu of fish oil for cholesterol junk...

As for P, couldn't tell ya. When I was seeing that Naturopath and taking scores of Norweigan Cod Liver Oil, all I got were fishy burps. Skin got worse.

I had posted this article somewhere on here...checked but couldn't find it so thought this might be interesting as the subject is the same......
Dr Mercola always recommends the Norweguin cod Liver oil such as Carlson's lemon flavored...I take a tablespoon after dinner and before bed...never experienced any fish burps!
The article I'm talking about tho is recommending cod liver oil as a topical!

I would guess that you would not need the lemon flavored however!

Topically applied fish oil alleviates psoriasis
BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA. Itching, scaling, and erythema (abnormal flushing of the skin) are common features of psoriasis, a fairly common skin disorder. One of the main characteristics of psoriasis is an increased concentration of arachidonic acid and its metabolite, leukotriene B4, in and around psoriatic plaque. It is well-established that fish oils suppress the formation of leukotriene B4 so researchers at the University of Buenos Aires Faculty of Medicine decided to investigate whether topical application of fish oil to skin areas affected by psoriasis would alleviate the symptoms. Their clinical trial involved 25 patients with psoriasis who were randomly assigned to apply either fish oil or liquid paraffin to their psoriatic plaques and leave them covered for 6 hours overnight under an occlusive dressing. The treatment was repeated daily for a 4-week period. Fish oil proved highly effective in reducing scaling (severity of scaling went from an average rating of 2.91 to 0.32 on a scale from 0 to 4), plaque thickness (from a rating of 2.21 to 0.52), and erythema (from a rating of 2.71 to 0.90). Itching was not relieved by the fish oil treatment. The 4-week liquid paraffin treatment was also effective in reducing erythema, but was significantly inferior to the fish oil treatment in reducing scaling and had no significant effect on itching or plaque thickness. Both treatments were well accepted by the patients and the researchers conclude that they are both clinically effective with the fish oil treatment being superior to the paraffin treatment.
