View Full Version : Question - Pain in Knee is it PA?

I've had P for 30 years. I have some PA, mostly in my left foot. I have a strange pain in my right knee.

It sometimes feels like needles and pins, numb, on the skin surface. When I put any pressure on it, well, it hurts. This happens especially at night when I climb in and out of bed. Yes, even pressure on a mattress causes me to say OUCH.

There's no discomfort beyond the numbness if I don't put pressure on it. I don't have any pain associated with movement. There is no noticeable trauma or changes to the skin in that area.

Any ideas?

I know I should have a doctor check it out but don't have a derm appointment for several months.

Thanks.

Tom

Hi Tom,

I wonder if it's a tendon insertion....? PA can cause the sheath of a tendon to become inflamed and it would be painful.

Please talk to your derm about a consult with a rheumy..I would be willing to bet that he/she would be able to figure it out.

Tom,

You should probably move that appt. up if you can. Before I started Enbrel I had swelling/pain/redness of my fingers, toes, spine, and knees. All symptoms are gone now (I've been on enbrel since March 2007). A simple x-ray or MRI will determine what is causing your knee problem.

Hi Tom, I have PA and one of the things I've developed is a pins and needles problem on the inside of my left knee and on up my thigh a bit. My suspicion is that there is inflammation around the tendon insertions of the knee (which is typical for PA) and that a nerve ending is being compressed. Best to be sure, however, and consult with your doctor. I keep forgetting to mention it to mine, but I am seeing mine on Monday, so hopefully I'll remember. Good luck and please let us know what you find out. MK
