Long sleeves in summer. Skipping the pool party. Dating hassles. Funny looks from strangers.
People with psoriasis endure a lot, even aside from the physical pain. But by participating in Psoriasis Cure Now’s Short Sleeve Day on September 15th, you will be part of an innovative strategy to change that.
People with psoriasis and their friends in the Bay area will be able to celebrate Short Sleeve Day A FEW HOURS EARLY, starting at 9 pm on Friday, September 14, at El Rio, 3158 Mission St (at Cesar Chavez) in San Francisco (zip, 94110; club's phone number, 415-282-3325). This Short Sleeve Day party will feature music from two bands in a 1980s tribute. DarkWave - playing the best of the New Wave era (and whose guitarist has psoriasis), will take the stage at 9:30 PM. And Japanese Baby - A Tribute to the Cure, will follow at 11:00 PM. You won't want to miss any of it!
(If you want to help the local volunteers putting together the San Francisco event, email us at ssd@psoriasis-cure-now.org and let us know!)
Psoriasis Cure Now's Short Sleeve Day is designed to:
* Raise money that will be used to educate opinion leaders about psoriasis--the folks who set the research budgets and write the news articles about psoriasis.
* Help psoriasis patients to GO PUBLIC AND SPEAK OUT--BEING OUR OWN ADVOCATES FOR ACCEPTANCE AND CHANGE.
* Educate the general public about psoriasis, since most of the ‘stigma’ surrounding psoriasis springs from ignorance of the disease.
On Short Sleeve Day, we are asking every person with psoriasis across the country to expose their psoriasis and go out into the world. We are also asking every person who cares about someone with psoriasis to join us. We will wear the official Short Sleeve Day T-shirt and invite people to ask us about psoriasis. This powerful collective action will empower us and educate the public. It will also serve as inspiration to the many people with psoriasis whose psoriasis has them in hiding, socially isolated.
Please register TODAY to join us. Together, we will reduce the social pain of psoriasis as we increase research on the disease.
See you in San Francisco at El Rio!
