Hi everyone, about five years ago i woke up and my right leg and foot were swollen so badly i couldn't even wear flip flops. my doc told me to go to lab and get bloodwork. said it was not a good sign. nothing. after a day or two it went away. over the last 5 years i have had intermittent swelling in my right knee, calves and feet. two years ago, i went to ER on thanksgiving. Doc there said there was definitely something going on. Shortly after that, i began to get finger and wrist pain. went to ortho and he did surgery for carpal tunnel, tendonitis and reconstructed the bone in my thumb closest to m wrist. for the past year and a half, thumbs have swelled, (i go get a cortisone shot), fingers swell, toes swell, and i feel like i am walking on a baseball on the bottom of my right foot. also second toe swells. but, tis is on and off. i'm so stiff in the morning and so tired after having slept 9 hours, i feel like its the middle of the night. my nails are pitted. my rheumy did not think i had enough inflammation in enough joints. its like your tooth stops hurting when you finally get to the dentist. i have, however, gone in to see primary care doc and she told me to go see another rheumy. so, sometimes my hip hurts so badly i feel like its broken, then i wake up another day and its a different joint. am i nuts?

Sound so much like PA (psoriatic arthritis). Check that part of the board. Since there is no definitive blood test to diagnose this, many doctors miss it or blame the problems on something else. A good rheumy will diagnose based upon symptoms, history, presence of P. There ARE ways to treat it. Good luck!

Maybe you should have the pitted nails checked out by a dermatologist. If that is p, then the swellings and aches are very likely to be PA.

Ya know..its nice to have a primary care doctor..but, they just dont know enough about this. Stick with the specialists.
