Has anyone been successful on Pagano's diet without drinking the teas? Do you think the diet alone is good enough to see results?

I am currently one in a half months into the diet, I only drink water and occasionally chamomile tea. I am hoping that since people have had results without the colonics, that I can also have results without the teas.
Any input appreciated.

My understanding is the Pagano Diet works without the teas but the teas help. I actually like the teas and find them very easy to make. You can get an amazing deal price wise on line at the Heritage Store. I drink the saffron at night as an iced tea mixed with juice. I drink the slippery elm in warm water, shaken up, straight down. They help with digestion. I have been on a Pagano like diet for a year. Not the miracle I thought it would be but I think it's made a difference and I feel great and am nice and fit. I will admit to only being about 80% faithful to the plan but am about to rev up and get back to it. You can't go wrong trying it. It's not as bad as it sounds and I don't even think about it now. My problem is being busy and getting stressed out. I reach for easy things to eat and don't always put time into food preparation. Anyway, more than you need to know. Bottom line, in my opinion, the diet without the teas works great. Also check out the book by Diedre Earles, not sure if I got the spelling right. She has a lot of good things to say about diet and P. She's based in Austin, Texas and has a nice website.

I agree.

I think you just need the right nutrients to help heal your intestines and to eliminate waste better and avoiding harmful foods helps too.

For me the healing teas were the most important part of the Pagano protocol.....Dr. Pagano studied many of the Edgar Cayce readings in order to get the info for his book HEALING PSORIASIS....he mentions in the book of some cases that did the slippery elm got clear only when SE was used alone...no other treatment! I have to say...wouldn't that be nice? but most people needed the slippery elm for healing the digestive tract...especially for those cases of colitis or enteritis!
If you do decide to take the herb drink it should be made and should not stand too long...suggested time is 3 minutes to 20 minutes after it is made.
Pagano recommends 1/4 teaspoon in a cup of warm water ( I used a full teaspoon as I had read some of the Cayce files where he sometimes mentioned more to people)...stir well. I use a cinnamon stick for a stirer...

if you don't want to take the SE in tea form there is a slippery elm lozenger made by Thayer sold at health stores you might want to try....

pregnant women should not take SE

I mentioned earlier to you that I had an blood allergy test done (recommended by my doctor) before I started Pagano.....went off trigger foods for 2 and a half months then went directly on to the Pagano eating regimen....I stayed on the trigger food diet as well, even tho my doctor said to try adding the foods back...I decided to wait.

Sally, did you go to a regular doctor or a special food-allergist doctor? Also regarding the teas: I found this interview/article in which Dr. Pagano says diet alone can allievate the problem in the majority of cases.

Yes A great interview....and maybe you can.....but didn't you try the diet a year or so ago? did you do the teas then? some people might not need the teas but then again maybe you do? I figured, when I did the eating plan, to not take the chance and waste time....even tho I didn't have stomach issues....( I think people that do should definitely use the SE)

Pagano also said in his book that Cayce mentioned a person that healed on the slippery elm alone....no particular diet!!! so one never knows! :D
One of the things he allows is dairy....I showed an allergy to milk so couldn't do his eating plan exactly...(also to many of my favorite veggies....which are ok to eat again after going off them for a while) but with my second allergy test several of the foods that were on the first test stayed on the second...not all but the ones that did were soy and milk.......

the doctor I went to is a D.O. (doctor of osteopathy) I call them open minded M.D.'s....they are just more inclined to alternative medicine!
In fact I had never heard of the blood allergy test til my doctor mentioned it.
She felt most of my itching might be caused by trigger foods, so suggested it!

here is a link to a previous discussion on this topic of allergy tests.....I don't think most psoriatics have true allergies, but a condition from the immune system that causes certain foods to be triggers for P reactions...heal the P and the triggers might disappear! (Just my observation)

Yes, I did the diet previously (5 years ago) but I didn't follow it the way I am following now. I remember eating wheat and milk (as he allows in his book). I remember snacking on whole grain cookies and breads. I didn't understand I should have avoided everything that had yeast too. Now I've omitted all dairy, wheat and yeast. I omitted basically all processed foods except for spelt bread made without yeast & sugar. A friend of mine suffers from eczema and she was the one who got me into trying the diet again. Her diet is similar to Paganos and her eczema went away completely from it. As far as the teas: I think that when Pagano wrote the book (back in the 90's) they didn't have probiotics on the market. I believe the probiotics easily can take the place of the teas. They help stomach and digestive issues. Anyway that's my own theory. I appreciate all the links you provided. You are well researched in this field. Thanks for your help.

Linda,

I really would encourage you to try the teas. The big bag of Saffron tea you get from anywhere is a fraction of the cost of probiotics and is easy to prepare. I have some bladder problems from taking too much, I was taking 3/4 of a teaspoon and he suggests 1/4, but the overall health benefits I could feel. The main one was I was sweating for the first time in a few yrs which has helped with my temperature sensitivity.

Slippery Elm is also easy and you can buy the lozenges on line in an econo bottle for a good price if you can't drink the tea.

Good luck with Paganos and read De. Earls book to if you can she make some interesting points.

Duke...... Linda mentioned on another thread that she was breastfeeding since that is the case...no teas.....

it was mentioned in the book that pregnant (andf breastfeeding) moms should not use the teas! :D

but maybe after the baby is weaned you might want to at least try the lozengers.....

My mistake Sally, I should have read that sorry, but I am very enthusiastic about the saffron tea. The bladder problem has cleared up after about 10 days not on the Saffron Tea, so I will start on it again at the 1/4 teaspoon per cup in a few days.

Just wondering - where did you buy the saffron tea? I have always had a hard time finding it...that, and American Safflower. Any tips?

I was just going to post and ask about these tea's! You guys have read my mind! Haha! I just wanted to ask can you get these at local health stores or is it a rare thing that I should just buy online? Also I read in Pagano's book and on here in the above post it causes bladder problems....what do you mean by that? Is it like not making it to the bathroom or just having to go alot? Is the tea better to take than the lozenges?

I found a website that offers tea bags that are made with just American Saffron and Slippery Elm Bark...www.zooscape.com. Has anyone tried these teabags? They seem reasonably priced. I usually buy the powdered slippery elm, but this might be easier...

Dear All,

Thanks for all good information.
re: Safflower/ Saffron teas: at this time our local health food store--a small 'chain' of 4 shops-- would not order tea from China, unless it is a purveyor with whom they have an on-going relationship, .

Does someone have a source of this tea not from China? I contacted the Kensington-Cayce folks, and as I recall, they didn't give source of their tea; they would not say it was not from China. Am regretful to not buy products from China, one the one hand. Safety issues have been enough that I'm taking the cue from our store manager, and not buying unless source is known.
