could anyone tell me if it is safe to use phenergan if i have nausea while taking mtx.I start tonight and forgot to ask my rhumey.Scared that I'm gonna get sick.

What dosage are you starting on? SOmtimes with the lower dose you won't get nausea you might not even on a high dose!

Generally dr's start slow and move it up...is this the case with you?

Did you take your dosage last night and are you okay? I've never been on MTX and there is nothing in the world as awful to me as nausea, I couldn't tolerate sulfasalazine for that reason...holy ick.

Are you taking folic acid too?

Hi Kimpat,
Hope you did o.k. with the MTX. I started 5 weeks ago with 3 pills a week. I am now up to 5 and have had no side effects with the exception of a little stomach cramping. I will up to 6 pills tomorrow. I have also seen tremendous positive effects with my PA. I'm not 100% and am awaiting insurance to approve Enbrel, but I'm finally having more good days than bad. I doubt you will have any problems with the MTX. Hang in there.

I started with MTX 20 mg/week in pill form (8 of the little 2.5 mg suckers), as well as 1 mg Folic Acid/day and high dose prednisone. I had real issues with chronic nausea and hair thinning in the beginning, as well as lower GI upset. I am still on the same dose of both the MTX and prednisone (seeing rheumy today so that may change) and we increased my folic acid to 2 mg/day a few weeks ago to manage the side effects better. overall seems to be helping. still losing some hair and still have days of nausea, but it is not every day anymore.

my regular pcp give me phenergran 50 mg cause between the methotrexate 25 mg once a week and the sulfasalazine 2,0000 mg plus I take 2,0000mcg of folic acid I get the dreaded barfy syndrome., rheumy know I rake when I am barfy so it is safe. just be ready for a nap

I know what you mean about the phenergran, it totally wipes me out. But the sleep is good.

the nap is good! it does help with the barfy syndrome.
