From reading some of the recent posts, I believe the time has come. It seems like we all feel better in the warmth of the sun. So this is my proposal (not so tongue in cheek either) we pool our resources and buy a big hunk of land in Florida and build our homes there. Talk about a support group. WOW!

Just think, ouchyk might live on MTX Lane, I'd be around the corner on Enbrel St. Our clubhouse would contain a medical center with Drs and therapy and everything we need. A grocery store that delivers and that has a huge kitchen for preparing and delivering those homemade meals for when we just can't. Golf carts and electric sooters for everyone (no embarrasement necessary).

This is something of a followup to my post about the barametric pressure and it does seem like Sunny Tampa Bay (hi, momelie, I'm up in Pasco County) lives under High pressure much more than the pain causing low. I've been here 21 yrs and although I still hate winter it's days like yesterday 81, today 82 and tomorrow 82 that will keep me here forever. That being said I'm going to San Juan, Puerto Rico on 12/3 for 6 days and the avg temps for that week are low 68 and high 85, can't wait.

For those of you who lived here before and those who haven't: Like Bob Barker used to say "COME ON DOWN".

Hope everyone has a pain free day!

Sounds like a GREAT idea to me!

We could have shuttles down to the mineral springs in Charlotte County (for the P sufferers), and other shuttles over to Disney, which, BTW, is THE best place I've ever been for handicapped accessibility!!!!

More shuttles over to the beach (daily, for me) for sun and salt water exposure, and shell walks. Publix would probably deliver the groceries in bulk to the central kitchen.

Daily Arthritis water aerobics in the communal pool, tai chi in the rec room.

Yeah, this would work!

BTW - not to hijack, but can I insert something I wish all my fellow PA sufferers knew?

Its about Disney - I know that for many of us, the thought of doing Disney with family and friends is close to being unthinkable due to the pain of our everyday lives. I'd like for all of you to know that this is NOT the case! I've been an annual pass holder at Disney for 23 years now (over half my life) and a regular visitor before they had annual passes. I've been there well over 1000 times (the computers quit keeping track when my visits got higher than 999, LOL), in health and with PA and its ever increasing limitations.

Its very safe to say that I know Disney BETTER than the back of my ever-changing arthritic hands, lol! I have never seen a place that bends over backwards for the physically challenged like they do - you really must see it to believe it. BUT (you knew there was one, didn't you?), its one of those things where you have to know what to do and what to ask for. If you don't speak up, you won't get the accomodations needed.

For instance - once you get to the parks, if you want, you don't have to drive at all. They have transportation, that easily accomodates scooters and wheelchairs. If you want to drive your own car to the parks (this is what we do), you can park in the handicap area, take a courtesy wheelchair to the gates, rent a wheelchair or scooter and off you go. If you stay on site, the Disney hotels offer free wheelchairs to their guests. I have my own wheelchair (with Tinkerbell painted on the back), but these are probably the best option for others.

At the parks, every park and every ride has wheelchair/scooter accomodations, sometimes through a separate entrance, sometimes through a side line. You don't always get to go to the front of the line, but you don't have to stand in the lengthy lines that would kill your stamina.

Each park also has places where you can rent a wheelchair halfway through the day, if you find that your stamina goes kaput, or when you hit the mid afternoon "wall" and need a boost. You put your name on your wheelchair or scooter, and when you park it (for the times you don't need it), its there when you come out to get it.

Anyway, I just wanted to let y'all know that while Disney might seem like an impossibility with PA, it really isn't. It can be done, even with our own unique challenges, and done very well, indeed. If any of you are planning a trip, please let me know, and I can help you with any planning questions you have. I've stayed at all the hotels and eaten many times in all the restaurants except the new Italian one (I refuse to pay $12 for a cannoli), but that's another story.

OK - finished with hijacking now! But it was a Florida thread, and Disney is kind of synonymous, y'know?

THAT'S ALL I WANT TO KNOW LOL

Except.......when I can I book my tickets and call the moving truck?

I think IT IS A GREAT IDEA FOR US TO BUILD A COMMUNE! No one else knows US like we do.......we could live wonderful lives this way. Seriously, this is not a bad idea.

It really does sound good. Ahhh I can hear the sounds of electric wheelies and me screaming "The doc forgot my meds!" lol I do miss so many things about florida my home. I miss the whit sands of the gulf between my toes and the smell of tanning oil. I however do not miss the sea gulls pooping on my shoulder. But I do miss it. We were gonna move there in January of 2005 but it would have taken all of our income to make it. Now Tennessee gets all but a few hundred a month and then the Rx gets the rest. Gotta find some cheap land perhaps around cross city or live oak. They are still very warm in the winter but do offer a bit of cool air for those that like a bit of change.
love to you all

Well I guess I'll be sitting on a cul de sac (always wanted to live on one) at Enbrel Cove. After all we will have a big lake won't we? I love to boat and Lake Cumberland, Ky. is one of my favorite places to go. So I gotta have a boating lake.

You know, we may want to take a look out west for our land and lake. Warm dry heat, ummmmm.

Wow. I'm going to be dreaming about this tonight thats for sure. I did notice once when I went to my sisters in Fort Lauderdale (during the winter here in MI) that I did feel better. Let me know when it's time to buy in :) I want to live on Humira Way Lane.

I just realized something about my time in fla. I go to PSL for 3 weels in august every other year and I sleep, sleep and then sleep some more. I think it may be because I feel better. I take fewer pain meds and sleep the sleep of a normal person w/out the aid of drugs. Whatchya think?
