Does anyone know of a good alternative treatment to help with DIP Psoriatic Arthritis. My mom is almost to the point of being disabled and nothing seems to be working. Thanks!

Dear Jon,

I notice that no one has responded to your cry for help. I feel really bad about that. I do not have DIP PA (just regular symmetrical PA)so I can't really suggest anything that might specifically benefit DIP PA. If you have not read any of the NPF's educational booklets I really encourage you to do so. They are extremely well written and informative. I believe there is one on alternative treatments. I also encourage you to read the newest booklet on systemic treatments--it covers pretty much all the current treatments from methotrexate to the new biologic drugs. Perhaps there is a treatment listed that your mom has not tried.
The only alternative treatment that I have tried is massage. I like massage as long as my joints are not too swollen, but I find that it gives only temporary relief. My massage therapist contends that the benefits from massage should last for a couple of weeks. That has not been the case for me but I definitely enjoy it while it is happening. You should also check out the Arthritis Foundation's website and message boards (www.arthritis.org)if you have not already done so. I hope your mom starts to feel better very soon.
Take care,
Stacy
