Has anyone used these products from this company in Maine? How did they work?

Apparently there are a few companies in Maine. I called one tonight called PsoRelief - and there's another one called Acadia. They are both in Maine. I'm asking the same question you are - they guarantee a clear up in 10 days or money back - sounds way too good to be true and probably is. I did, however speak to a nurse at my derm's office who was surprised that the doctor said he thought psorelief was a good product. I still want to hear from someone who has used it though. I've heard costs from $79 to $279 for a few bottles.

The NPF first heard of the product, Psorelief in 1994 when the company, C.F. Labs placed advertisements in newspapers throughout the country. According to these advertisements, Psorelief contains a mix of salicylic acid (a well known scale-lifter) and other skin softeners.

We have heard from several people who have tried Psorelief and felt that the product seemed to improve or help to clear their psoriasis symptoms. Even though the NPF has not heard from anyone who believed that this product made their psoriasis symptoms worse, we caution you that everyone will not respond in the same manner to each skin product or treatment. We often hear stories of both clearing and flare-up from those using the same product.

The NPF suggests that you use caution when trying or applying new products. You may want to test the product for any reaction in a small area for at least 24 hours, before applying it to larger areas.

While the NPF has not received any negative comments as to the business practices of this marketing firm, we caution you to be aware of hidden costs, such as shipping and handling charges, and suggest that you ask for a written copy of the return policy or any guarantees. You may also wish to contact the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed on this company.

Unfortunately, as with all businesses, profit is often the bottom line, and some companies will resort to immoral or illegal practices to achieve this. The rule of thumb when purchasing products by mail order or on-line remains, “Buyer beware”.

Acadia Skin Care is a marketing company that sells several products they claim clear psoriasis symptoms. After calling this company, the NPF was able to determine that the most common product they market is a Zinc pyrithione spray sold under the name Skin Plaque.

A representative from Acadia told us the treatment consists of a two-step process. Step one involves the use of a gel which contains salicylic acid, an ingredient that is helpful in removing the scale that accompanies plaque psoriasis. Step two involves the use of a spray which contains zinc pyrithione to treat red, itchy skin.

Salicylic acid is recognized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as being effective in the treatment of psoriasis. Zinc pyrithione is recognized by the FDA as being effective in the treatment of eczema and seborrheic dermatitis, and has not been approved for treating psoriasis, however some people with psoriasis may find it helpful. As of this date, the NPF has not heard from anyone who has tried either product so we have no anecdotal information to share with you. We would be interested in hearing from you if you decide to try Skin Plaque.

Please contact us anytime we can be of assistance to you.

Dear NPFWebMaster - I just replied to the other note you sent from my first comment on here. Now I see you answered the one about Acadia. Thank-you. I have not yet ordered from either company but the difference in price was $79 for a cream and lotion from PsoRelief and $179 for a lotion, gel, shampoo, and conditioner from Acadia. You seemed more intrigued about that gel from Acadia. Can you tell me your opinion of whether Acadia seems to have a product just like Psorelief plus that extra gel - which might be more worth trying or whether it would be wiser to stick with PsoRelief because it's been around longer? I just don't want to get worse - but it seems that neither of these would make things worse. My Psoriasis is mild usually - it flares up after having the Strep virus. I have the gutate kinds that is all over - not just on elbows and knees. Plus I have scalp psoriasis which is pretty bad right now-(I got over strep and tonsilitis just a month ago and presto - out came all the psoriasis.- First time in several years) I do know that I am lucky for those several years.

I believe that the NPFWebmaster has my e-mail address and would be fine with you writing me directly or just answering on here. I chose not to post my e-mail on the mssg board though. Thank-you for you input on here. This was very helpful.

After a little research, we found that Psorelief (not to be confused with PS Relief-advertised in the latest Psoriasis Resource) has been discontinued and is no longer available. Neither product, psorelief nor Acadia, is advisable as anything more than a moisturizer.

You would be well advised to look into scale lifters and a good quality moisturizer instead, rather than spending a lot of money on "miracle" products.

Feel free to call the NPF Patient Educators toll free for additional information at (800) 723-9166, and choosing option 1.

Dear NPF Webmaster-
That is interesting that you say PsoRelief has been discontinued. On Sat. Nov. 30th I got a call from them and they talked me into buying 2 bottles because they lowered their price again. The man I spoke with - I have his name and he promised it would be here in 2 weeks. I'm a little concerned now. Their ad was just in our Kansas City paper 2 weeks ago - and I went ahead and ordered because he caught me at a weak moment. I have never ordered from a sales call in my life. I'm going to get the name for you and also call them. The salesman's name is Gary Croteau and he can be reached at 877-316-2517. He is in Biddeford, Maine and said the PsoRelief charge of $44.90 would appear on our credit card as a company called JungleMD. I am going to call them now. Thanks for your info.
