Hi,
I have an 8 year old daughter with Guttate. We have been dealing with it for 6 months. We were told it comes from a Strep infection. She had strep 6 times last year and this year. She's covered from her scalp to the tops of her feet, The only areas she doesn't have 'spots' are the soles of her feet and palms of her hands. We did the oral prednisone which made it worse - this was before proper diagnosis whas made, we have used 7 different creams, ointments or foams, and 2 shampoos with no relief. We are waiting to go to UNC to a ped. dermatologist next month. She's had a biopsy to prove the Guatte. She's been non-responsive to every treatment 3 doctors have given her. I understand what you are going through. If you son wants an understanding pen-pal my daughter would love to have someone that has been there, done that.

Hi Debbie and Kim,
It is nice to meet you. My daughter, who is 9 yrs. old has had guttate psoriasis since about 1 yr. old. In her case, it was brought on by stress. she hated daycare, it went away during vacation (both winter and summer) and then went away for a few years while I was on maternity leave with her brother. It flared again when she started kindergarten...and she has not been clear since. It has covered her body everywhere from her scalp to the soles of her feet (when my star soccer player/gymnast couldn't run or even walk properly). It has been in her ear canals so she became almost deaf.
Fortunately she (usually) responds to UVB, and we live close to a hospital which provides it. The creams don't help at all when she is flaring, and since it covers her whole body....it's difficult to get all the spots. The phototherapy is a long process. 3X/week, and it takes several weeks before there is any change.
Good luck to you both in finding something effective for your children.
Karen (Rachel's mom)
