Hi everyone. My 9-year-old son, Jack, was diagnosed recently after getting strep for the first time. Having had P myself since childhood, I can say that it is a far better world for psoriatics than it was when I was a kid. That's what's giving me comfort right now.

Back in the day, I remember the derm telling my mom that I had to wear coal tar on my scalp to school. She laughed at him. The derm seemed mean and scary to me too, but he was "the best in town" so we kept seeing him. We just didn't know anything, and apparently, neither did the medical profession. It's taken over 25 years, numerous docs and countless meds to get me clear, which (knock wood) I am as of late.

Jack's experience is so different. He uses Lidex, which is odorless and colorless, on his scalp spots and takes Zyrtec every night to help with the itching. He really likes our derm and he's almost clear. Even if his P spreads, which it undoubtedly will, I have a lot of hope that with all the new advances, his P will be nothing more than a mild nuisance rather than the nightmare it's been for me.

I am so NOT a Pollyanna, but I wanted to share these two different experiences in the hopes that it might make someone who is new to all this feel a little better. Thanks for letting me share our story. -- Tiffany
