Hi, I have a teen dtr with severe and extensive psoriasis. She has had since age 4 with no real remission. Has been through 6 weeks of light therapy 3 x each week on 2 occasions. It worked for about a week or so. She had always had a good attitude about her condition. She knows in the scheme of things in life this is a small potato. She is one of six and has a sister with a major disability. She has lived through my brain surg. and so on. I am wondering if there is a clinical trial for teens. She has tried a number of meds with no success. Her personality is becoming somewhat depressed and her skin has much to do with this. We live in MA. Who do you recommend?
By the way, I tried to get info through chat places which I have never been to and was stunned. I tried 3. First seemed to be about sex and the other 2 made me wonder if people could speak more than 2 words. Is there a spot for this situation and how do I get there.
THANK YOU for any help.

Hello Mrs. Leary,

Welcome to the board. I am also Mrs. Leary.:)

I am sorry to hear of your daughter's struggle with p, and of your other challenges.

I am afraid that in order to make any specific suggestions concerning medications, you will need to give us more information about what she has used, when, how long, and the results.

There are rarely clinical trials for teens, I do not know of any. Since you live in MA, are you close enough to Boston for a derm consultation? I know some there.

Please also encourage your daughter to log on to the Teens forum here, it may help.

Regards,

Hi from another mom of a daughter w/ P .

My daughter is 15 and has just started dealing with her skin condition. While she struggles to accept that this will not go away, she works hard to get an upper hand on her skin.

We have just switched dermatologists. She is excited to finally have one that she is actually able to relate with. The doctor actually listens to her pain.. and tries her best to help......can you believe that.....We are in the process of finding a good regiment of treatments to best suit her needs and personality (how hard she is willing to work on her skin)

It is tough on any given day to see her cry, and try to support her. I hear her say she is thankful to not have a worse condition....cancer, degenerative disorder, etc......But there are days when her own skin is all she is able to think of....Par for the course , I guess.

It has its up days and its down days....and every now and then, there are days in between. And we don't have a choice but to deal with it.......

My daughter has not been involved in the support of the teen forum on this web site. She gets her info from me, as I keep updated on the advice and support of others....She was intersted in maybe going to the convention in August, but the dates conflict with her social schedule...she is going to two concerts this Sat...Christina & Justin, and also some all day band thing in Philly.

Once again, thanks to all who are participating in the health and well being of each other on this planet...Barbi :D

Hello ladies,

I am 21 and have had p since age 5. I did the lightbox treatments and twice they have sent me into remission, now however the lights quit working for me, i should tell you though i have been using them off and on for over 5 years, so they may very well work for her. You ladies may want to ask the doctors about biologics if their skin is that bad. Pending on their age and the type they may qualify. Again as PJ said more info is needed.

I am so happy to hear both girls are trying to keep positive and they are on the right track with that ! PJ suggested getting them on the board for teens here at NPF and I agree. It could really help them relate to people around or at their age.

Take care and smile! :)
