" I,ve suffered with psoriasis on nearly half of my body for 25 years. When I read that turmeric might have anti-inflammatory action, I bought some and sprinkled a rounded teaspoon on my ceral. I continued the regimen daily, and after 10 days, the awful itching and bleeding had ceased. The skin problems on my legs and thighs also cleared up." This was sent to the Herbal Pharmacy, they did reply, if anyone is interested in the reply, I'll be gald to let you know

Here's a link to what seems to be a Q&A article regarding this question. I assume it's the same article you are referring to:http://www.newsday.com/news/health/ny-dsphar3446798sep09,0,7306620.story?coll=ny-health-headlines (http://)
I hope the link works.....I'm hit or miss with these things, swinging at about 50/50. :D
My initial assumption is that this is a coincidence, but who knows???

Interesting but watch out it sounds tooo simple and we dont want that ? do we?
I mean if it were that simple none of us would have this affliction would we......:D :) :D :p
maybe we should change the nomenclature of some words such as "alternative medicine" to "HEALTHIER CHOICES"?

Hi Guys,
That is interesting. However, as a long timer, I can tell you all that just about any major change in my diet will cause some sort of reaction to my skin. Evening primrose oil is a classic example. Cod liver oil...
However, within a short amount of time any benefit seems to go away, in my own personal experience. Seeing as how my p is fickle enough to have major changes in as little as 8 hours, I can blame it on about any factor in my life, for better or for worse.
Once again, folks, I hope everyone who tries this has great sucess, but please remember to check with your drs before trying even these simple home remedies. ;)

It was in the Asbury Park Press in NJ too.
in fact, it's abt the only style of food which I like to prepare. Turmeric is used extensively in many recipes that I make, and I've had bad scalp psoriasis, as well as my first major outbreak of plaque psoriasis (other than on my elbows) while I've been in major Indian food cooking modes.
There are some posters from India here occasionally so maybe they might comment.
If you do try it, beware of one thing: it has great capacity to permanently color things yellow! So, don't splash it on any light colored clothing. I sometimes put it in scrambled eggs just to give them a brighter color :) .

Hello Everyone
Thanks for the input. I don't think I will be trying this. As I think about it I grew up in Scotland ate a lot of curries, still do, I am sure the spices I use would have tumeric in the mixture. Sometimes, something comes along and for a wee while you think maybe just maybe. I am hoping to receive the new cream that Leo Labs has, called dovobet ?????? kepping my fingers crossed that it may work.

Hi! I am a new member and I had to join so I could share my turmeric story. I read the same article...you must be from cleveland. I ran right out that day and bought the spice. we sprinkled it over everything and it is intolerable. I swear I dont know how that woman eats it on cereal. I called The Vitamin Shoppe and dont you know they sell it in capsules. My son has had it for two years (gutate) and after sixteen days he is almost clear. he took one tablet a day. His scalp wasnt responding as well so I boosted him up to two a day and in two weeks his head was clear. It is nothing short of a miracle!!! I posted a note earlier today about this because I want to tell everyone. Please leet me know if it works for you.

hi, i am new to this forum, i am reading a post written by you from way back in 2003. my 12yo daughter has recently broken out in p andn we are desperate for some relief. how is your sons condition today? did the tumeric send his p into long term remission? could you write me back and tell me a little bit more about his experience and the long term effects that turmeric had for him?
i would really apprecitate it- thanks, lisa
I take Curcumin (3 capsules a day) and in about three weeks have cleared from severe p about 50%. Hopefully that w/ the SE tea, saffron tea, limited topicals and tanning....I will be clear this summer....finally!

Turmeric is simply an effective anti-inflammatory agent. As we all know psoriasis has an intense inflammatory property(itching, burning, redness) Eating an anti-inflammatory diet is probably the number one thing people with a chronic inflammatory disease such as psoriasis, heart disease, etc. can due to control there disease. This involves eating a diet with a 1:1 to 1:3 omega three to omega six ratio. Americans are eating ratios 20:1 and higher. If you have psoriasis and you want to control it you HAVE to control this ratio. Start eating lots of fish, cut out red meats unless you can find grass fed beef, wild game is good for you, eat leafy green vegetable, bright colored vegetables and fruits because they contain flavonoids that are anti-inflammatory, eat flax seed, bake your food dont fry it, stop eating sugar except whats in the fruit, drink water, if you cook with oil use coconut oil (all the other oils are way to rich in omega sixs) Snack on healthy foods (raw macadamian nuts, no oil or salt added) Supplement with turmeric and omega 3 or fish oil pills. Do this for the rest of your life. Make a change. This will greatly reduce your psoriasis problems not to mention extend your life by a decade or more and greatly reduce your chance of cancer, stroke, heart disease, etc. GUARANTEED. Your body cant be healthy when you keep it in a state of constant inflammation by eating these unhealthy diets. JUST TRY IT

Sure. Take it with Evening Primrose Oil (EPO). EPO conatins GLA which is used to make prostaglandin type 1 and 2. Tumeric selectively shuts down COX-2 enzymes without affecting COX-1. This will inhibit production of prostaglandin type 2, while promoting the production of prostaglandin type 1.
EPA in fish oil is used to make protaglandin type 3, and competes for COX-2. This can also reduce inflammation without shutting down prostaglandin type 2 production completely.
COX-2 in expressed in most tissues only during a diseased or wounded state. However, COX-2 is normally expressed in some tissue all the time and provides blood clotting factors for the whole body. Tumeric will shut that down too.

Saffron tea is supposed to increase the oxygenation of blood. Another attempt to provide more oxygen to tissues with poor circulation.

Tumeric is also sited for possibly helping prevent alzhiemrs. Apparently in the middle east ie., India there are few alzhiemers patients blamed partly on heqavy concentraions of tumeric in their daily diet. I started taking it and severe headaches in my rear upper neck. Oddly, this is where alzhiemers attacks in the brain stem building up plaque. I wonder how prevelant psoriasis is in India.

Alzheimer's is a disease that doubles in risk every five years beginning at age 65. The life expectancy (average, of course) is 64 in India. It is more probable that life span rather than diet accounts for this statistic. This isn't to take from the tumeric discussion, rather, one should always strive to give good information in order to avoid false hopes or expectations.

I have been using Tumeric for over a year now and it has done wonders to clear me up. But you have to stick with it. I don't sprinkle it on anything. I take curcummin in pill form. I take 1000 mg a day or 2 pills with every meal. It can be harsh on your stomach if you have existing stomach problems.
I cleared all of this with my Derm. and I suggest you do the same. He is Indian and has been very pleased with my progress. I also do UVB therapy at home with a Daavlin 6 bulb panel.
