Howdy all. I am a 26 year old college student (ya I went back to school). After being laid off last year and not being able to find work I decided this was the best route. The problem is the EXTREMELY expensive medication costs. On average it is costing me about 500 dollars a month. I have searched the net endlessly and none of the prescription plans cover any of the medications I need. Unfortauntely my savings are not gonna hold me over forever. Anyone have any advice or leads that I could persue to locate someone willing to give me a prescription plan that covers at least some of the cost of my presctiptions? I am almost at my wits end so any leads would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sampson,

Sorry to hear that you're going through such a rough time. :( You might want to try www.needymeds.com. It sounds like a scam, but several people have posted here that they've been helped by it.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

Keep us posted.

Does your school not have a group plan that you can get on?? Idividual plans are tough because of preexisting condition clauses.
Try contacting the drug maker also....sometimes they have plans themselves to provide meds at a cheaper rate (with Rx of course) and in some cases even free.

welcome........
the other guys gave good advice...the only thing I can add is if you have a Costco (discount everything store) in your area they supposedly have the lowest rates for meds...can't remember if I read it on here or not...probably since there is so much info here...but anyway it is a members only store but according to the info I read all you have to do is tell the doorman that you just want to fill a prescription...and they let you in......go for it!!!!:D

Is that like a Price Club or a Sams Club?

Hey Sampson!

At your University is there a student health center? If so check them out, or even better see if they have a health clinic or a local Community University they sometimes have clinics and you can get all of your health care at sliding scale. I was not in school but going through a difficult time and went to our local university also a teaching hospital and got signed up with their Derm clinic and got my meds for $2.50 a script. Please check this out for yourself. Yea you might have to fill out forms and wait at the docs office but you will save a ton of money. Also at the student health center the docs there usually get samples from drug reps to hand out to students check with them and see if they can help out as well. My son is in college and suffers from cluster headaches that came out last semester in school, he got hooked up with the docs at the student health center and got all his meds for free. He was taking Imitrex which for 18 pills costs over $350.00, he got them for free!
Good luck and check out your school and community hospitals.

As usual lots of good advise. Didn't say what school you attending but if it has a Med School there there may be anumber of trials going on. Also a number of place throughout PA. are currenlty conducting studies in which all meds are free and some studies actually pay you. JUst an option to throw out there.

If interesting look at the NPF heading under research. BUt the list is not complete go the National Institue Of Health an they to list ongiong research projects. Not all reshearch projects are about bilogics. There are a number of studies working on new topicals. So no matter how bad you are afflected there may be something out ther. Good luck.
