Hi, I'm new to the site and am enjoying reading the message board. I noticed when I eat chocolate my P seems to flare up. Are there any types of food that are particularly good and/or bad for P?

Hello papafrog,
Welcome to a great site with loving and caring participants!
About food: My personal experience is that any food I am allergic to or sensitive to will cause my p to worsen. I have a very mild case, but after eating forbidden foods, the itching increases immensely.
If you scroll down, "Waco" has a thread about food and diet. There is a lot of info elsewhere on this site about diet and how it affects each of us so differently.
I hope you find some answers.

Hi Papafrog,
Welcome to the Board! You've come to a very special place. A lot of very nice and helpful people post here. It's great to finally be able to exchange info, ask questions, vent or even share a some laughs with people who truly understand. :)
Everyone and their p is different and the subject of p and diet come up around here all the time. Some people say that the foods they eat has no effect on their p and others say that they p gets worse if the eat certain foods. I've had p since 1964 and I fall into the "food has no impact on my p" category.
Once of the principle proponents of "diet impacts psoriasis" theory is a chiropractor named John Pagano. He wrote a book called "Healing Proriasis". I haven't read it, but from what I read here, I know that he suggests that people with p should avoid nightshade vegetables. Nightshade vegetables include tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, and peppers.
The interesting thing is that I have a diagnosed allergy to tomaotes and I eat them all the time without experiencing any of my typical allergy symptoms. (I have other diagnosed allergies and my typical allergy symptoms resemble a very bad cold.) Once I learned that some people suggest that there is a relationship between p and diet and that Dr. Pagano suggests that tomatoes are among the foods that are bad for p, I decided to try to cut tomatoes from my diet. (That's easier said than done!) I tried avoiding them whenever possible. I gave up after about three weeks, because I didn't notice any change in my p.
Here's a link to the thread that Peggy referred to: http://www.psoriasis.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=5978. Here's a link to a thread about "alternate treatments", it's very long and includes several discussions of diet and p: http://www.psoriasis.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=3404&highlight=alternate and here's some links to a couple of other threads on the subject: http://www.psoriasis.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=5299&highlight=PEggy; http://www.psoriasis.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=5167&highlight=PEggy; and http://www.psoriasis.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=3320&highlight=PEggy.
Hope this helps. Good luck. Keep us posted. Let us know if you hae any othe questions and please don't be a stranger.

Yup for some - yes
others - food is not an apparent factor
I stay with Low Carb for me personally i find it helps...
Wahoo, my thread gets a mention! :D
For me food does seem to affect things, i have not had anything tomatoey 4 the last week (since i posted my thread!) n my p on my face has calmed down a far bit (does sometimes anyway, so may just be a coincidence, but we will see!)
I would suggest to give the diet thing a good go! i think we rely to much on medicine these days, when, if our bodies had the right nutrients n stuff they would be able to sort themselves out! I think we underestemate our own bodies!

I know its SUGAR.....if I eat any I immediately feel an itch.......if I ever gave it up completely (that would be a miracle) I would probably clear up....and be able to eat all the nightshades I wanted....but I don't care that much for nightshades anyway......:D

Thanks to you guys for posting. I've had P for many years now (34 now) and I'm going to give changing my diet a shot. Particularly sugar since choclate for me seems to be a main culprit

Food doesn't seem to change my Psoriasis at all. But lack of sleep does. I flare right up if I don't get enough sleep.
