Ok Hello everyone! My name is Kelly and and i have P and PA more than I can stand! I'm so tired of hurting and always being in pain. I havn't got health insurance anymore because when i turned 21 I was droped from my mothers plan. I've been w/o doctor care for over a year now and it has become painfully clear that i can no longer go on like this! Everyday I seem to be more and more sore..... keep geting worse and with as much Aleve that I take you'd think that i'd either be bleeding from the stomach or own stock in walmart! I go through 40- 50 aday and all that does is help my not be as stiff. I've done the whole meditation thing..... Mind over matter, well I'm over telling myself that I don't feel anything when i'm in so much pain sometimes i think it would be easier to just cut off my arms and legs. Common sence tells me that there has to be something out there that i can do,but I've been turned down by Disablity already, and Its become nearly impossible to hold a job down. I'm 22years old and I feel like i'm 82years old. I've literitly seen 80 year old grandma's move faster than me and it makes me feel so useless. Like I'm a big waste of space. I hope whoever reads this can understand at least somewhat of where i'm coming from and not think that i'm crazy or stupid. I'm at the end of my rope and I thought that if I didn't at least vent some, i'd blow up. If anyone has any sugestions for me and I do mean ANY......I'm not picky at this point. I'd really like to hear them!
out of control,
Kelly
Kelly,
The National Psoriasis Foundation has an advocacy department that helps people with insurance and disability issues. Please contact them as soon as you can.
Here's a link to the advocacy section of the web site:
http://www.psoriasis.org/resources/advocacy/
Contact information is on the bottom of that page. Call the NPF and ask to speak to someone in the advocacy department. You will find people there who want to help you.

Kelly it would probably be very worth while for you to look into clinical trials in your area because they are free.....as a matter of fact many of them pay you minimally for your time. If you need help locating one in your area the NPF can probably help of let us know what city you live in or near and someone may be able to help!

I certainly hope the Psoriasis Foundation can help. It would be great if you could get help and feel well enough to work and get insurance. I am on methotrexate and it's an inexpensive drug. I am praying you get help soon. PLEASE stop taking all those NSAIDs...there is NO way you should be taking that many...esp. if they aren't even helping.

Kelly,
First off...you're not crazy. Second...we completely understand what you're going through.
This condition really does a number on the body, and brain.
I was comparing arthritic pain with my 78 year old grandma a couple of weeks ago...we were exchanging arth stories!!! She's almost 50 years my senior!!!
I do agree with other posters here, taking as many Alieve as you are is probably not very good for you.
If you can get in to see a rheumatologist, I highly recommend this. Prescribed NSAIDS are relatively inexpensive, for the most part...and often are stronger than your Alieve.
Also...rheums can prescribe drugs like MTX (which is super cheap)...and MTX has been the most helpful drug for me so far. MTX has not totally cured me or anything....but I've started to notice a bit of change in both my PA and my P....plus...the side effects haven't been too bad so far :)
Hang in there....and feel free to message me if you just need someone to talk to. Knowing that there are other people out there that are feeling the same way as you are, sure helps ease the mind a little bit!

I cant tell you how good it makes me feel to know that I am not alone in dealing with this horrible condition.

Kelly, Here is another thought. I know that disabilty claims are automatically turned down the first time they are filed with SSI and sometimes with SSA. You may be required to go through some pretty humiliating processes but keep pushing. Go into your state welfare office and ask them how to receive medical assistance. If you are unable to work due to illness there must be some kind of a program for medical assist.. Go to a county hospital and ask for help getting treated.
Do you live on your own? I think you might qualify for medicaid. Have you applied?? Some of this takes time, so start the process moving and don't give up!!!! Will your mom help you???
Stop taking all of those NSAIDS!! You'll do more harm than good to yourself. Despiation causes one to make poor dicisions at times. So keep posting, go into the chat room and make some friends. This will help more than meds. that don't even dull the pain. We're here for you. Always!!! Kathy
I didn't finish one thought. With disability, you might be required to hire an attorney to assist you. This type of case is usually handled and paid for after you win the case and receive your settlement. The settlement is pro-rated back to when you first filed the claim. It does take time though. Check your local phone book or call the state bar in your area for a referral. Be sure the case is taken on contingency. Tears are OK too. They can releave stress.

Hi Kelly,
Welcome to the Board! As you've already discovered, a lot of nice and helpful people post here. It's great to FINALLY be able to ask questions, exchange info, vent or even share some laughs with people who truly understand. :)
You've already ready been given some great advice. You also might want to look into www.needymeds.com. It sounds like a scam site. but several people have posted here that they've received help from it. Here's link to one person's success story: http://www.psoriasis.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=3979.
Hope this helps. Good luck. Keep us posted and please don't be a stranger.

Kelly,
First of all welcome to the site. As you have already seen, this is a place where you can share experiences and get some great info from others who know.
You have gotten great advice already but I want to eleborate ona few points.
1-Be sure to contact the NPF as suggested. They can provide very useful information about insurance and government agencies/ programs
2-See a Rheumy I know it can cost you without insurance but it is important that you get headed in the right direction. Explain your situation to the doc and perhaps she/he can offer some low cost alternatives
3-Some pharm companies are starting to provide assistance to patients to help get insurance so that they can take thier meds.
4-NEVER GIVE UP I know exactly how you feel about felling old before your time. I was 36 years old and walking with a cane that my 74 year old mother gave me!!!!!!! That should never happen in someones life. However, with some good docs, meds and attitude I have bettled back. I know practice yoga and go jogging!
5-Come here for help and encourgament. You may not realize this but you have joined an entirely new family how is here to support you when you need it
6-Do your best to be proactive about your P/PA I have learned the hard way that you can ignore your P but it usually won't ignore you!
Good Luck and keep us posted! FlakeyMatt
Hi Kelly, I posted to you the other day and I think also on the board at psoriasis support . com tonight.
I wanted to mention that the drug companies also will work with people that have no finances for drugs. Ask your MD for assistance of if you would like the names of some lower cost pharmacys e-mail me and I'll do what I can to help you.
Reach me at michigannammy1@wmconnect.com. feel free to do so. Be Blessed. YeeeHaaa...Kathy

did not read all the other posts, but consider:
-clinics at state hospitals
-paying the $60 for a GP visit, they may help your pain
-many older drugs that work very well from stuff like Sulindac, Diflocam, Votaren...are generic and cost not as much as Alleve. Tell them of your financial problems and let them and you see what the drug stores charge for what. Even percocet is really cheap if you need that level of pain killer.
-that much alleve might do you in...and costs plenty even as generic.
