Hi all,Im new here.
Im from Ontario Canada,im 27y/o, i have Psoriasis all over my body, scalp, arms, legs, back, chest, stomach, knees, fing er nails, toe nails, and the private parts back and front.
I have tried all sorts of creams throught out the years 6-8 years or longer and right now im on methotrexate sodium 12.5mg a week...and have been on it about 4 weeks.
I havent had a job in i dunno how many years..5 or so.
i dont go out in public that much, when i do,im wearing sweaters/long sleeved shirts..even in the middle of july/summer.
when i sweat the Psoriasis really annoys me.
the type of Psoriasis i have is the flakeyness and redness, scalling, where i can just peel it off..a few years back i also tried the ultra light treatment, which didnt do a thing.
nothings seems to be working...im kinda stuck in my bedroom,my social time is right here on the internet...i dont even no wher eto begin how Psoriasis makes me feel..but im going INSANE!

anyways,i was just wondering is Psoriasis was a disability and if so,how severe does it have to be? and how do i go about applying for this? and what are my chances in recieving it?

if anyone else is from ontario canada and maybe applyed for disability, did you recieve it or get denied? im not sure if the usa works the same way about this as canada does.

thanks in advnaced.

Hi Ginney, and welcome to the boards. I'm not sure how the Canadian system works, but yes, p and pa can be considered disabilities here in the U.S. It is not easy to qualify for, but you will find some members here who have gone through the process. Hopefully someone else with similar experience in Canada can advise you on the specifics there. The NPF has an Advocacy Dept (under the orange resources tab), and they may be able to help guide you as well. Glad that you found us, and hope someone else will come along who can help you through the process. You will find many here who know what you are going through, and can understand your feelings.

hi kim and thanks.
i guess ill just keep checking back to see if somebody has replied to this thread, thats canadian.
i'll do some more research though for sure.
ive never been on antidepressents..i havent worked in a few years..so im not really sure how this all works in Ontario Canada.
so im not really sure on my chances...but for a few years ive been tryin creams, pills, ultra lights and what not...been to a few different skin specialts..and nothing is working..im bout ta snap n lose it...sum days i just wanna smash someone/something...the odd time my freaking toe nails just fall off..completely.
I was sitting here last night thinking, its time i do something about this...and i found this board.
so if anyone on this board is from Ontario Canada and had been thru this, pls give me as much info as possible about my question.

thanks again

i'll check back later

Can you try Amevive, or Enbrel ? I know that if you have it on your hands and feet it is considered a disability. But you have a rather severe case so that might also qualify. Here we go to the Social Security office to apply. It usually takes a couple of years to get it, and I have heard your almost always turned down the first time. I am sorry your having such a hard time. You came to a great place though because we are all going through the same thing. I hope you get better soon.

hi Ksayre
yeah i dont have it on palm of my hands of soles of my feet..its on all my finger and toe nails tho,so im not sure if they consider that.
the tips of my finger and toes get sore at times, and other times i feel ok..no matter how short i keep my nails cut,it just dont work out...

onec again if somebody is from Ontario Canada on these boards, pls do tell.

I'm not from Canada, but I did a little looking and I found the web page that you probably want to see and perhaps contact for details. It's http://www.sdc.gc.ca/asp/gateway.asp?hr=/en/isp/cpp/severe.shtml&hs=cpr

I hope this helps..

I know for a fact that in the US/UK/Australasia P is definately a disability - hell, in the UK they'll even supply ya with a car etc lol. Here in NZ its a disability too - for which you receive SOME assistance/income. I work full-time so dont know the details but I must admit there are times when I wonder if not working would be wiser for my health but I don't want to be stuck at home 24/7 either - another "can't win" situation associated with this damn crap lol. Hang tough babe.....somewhere sometime they have GOT to find sommmmmmething to help us ALL!
I and everyone here know how you feel......you may be feeling isolated but you are definately not alone! My/Our thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone here *hugs*

I Have To Say Im In The Uk An They Would Not Class It A Disability So No Car Lol My Mother Has It Bad To The Point That She Can't Move The Doc Who Saw Her Told Her She Was Entitled To Disability But When It Came To It The People Who Dealt With it Told Her They Would Not Give It Her Until She Was In a Wheelchair Yet a Women I know Refuses Treatment Completely And They Give Her Disability So The Disibilty Office Aint That Great Down Here I Myself Am Covered To The Point That I No Longer Venture Out The Last Time I Went Out I Had An Accident And A Medical Proffesional Refused To Treat My Injuries For Fear She'd Catch Somthing An I Felt Pretty Horrible Lol I Have Tried Alsorts Of Treatments But All Too No Avail

oh i understand that ratz,100%

im just curious ta what others might think what my chances are in getting disability..ive stated my position and what not.
so just pretty much wanted ta know my percentage chance in being eligible for it
i have P from head to toe..arms,legs,chest,scalp,stomach,back,shoulders, ALL my toe/finger nails and other places..even inside both my ears.

so im just trying to get some advice.

i cant deal with this crap no more..goin freakin insane!

Well that is real strange....guess its a "case by case" thing. I just came back from UK after having lived there for 2 yrs (was there when P first reared its ugly head) and i was told by the "soc" that I could go on disability and get vehicle etc. Go figure *shrug*

Anything and everything is worth trying for. Disability could help you get so many treatments and possibilities. Go for it!
I'm just so glad I live in NZ where healthcare is very cheap due to government subsidies!

Yeah Well People Do Get Disability For It Over Here Your Right There But You Know What The "Social" are Like If They Can Get Away With It They Will Seems They Spend More Of Their Time Giving Disabilty To The People That Don't Really Need It Those That Have Lied In Order To Get It An Refusing The Genuine People Who Really Do Need It I Mean Anyone Who Has The Right To Apply Should Apply Without A Second Thought An I Hope That It Works Out For Them In Getting It Give Em Hell Lol

hi there ginny im going through the process right now in the US i was denied then got a lawyer and he said i should get it so you may have to get a lawyer also just remember dont give up all we can do is fight for our selfs cause no one is gonna fight for us

04-15-2004, 01:33 AM
hi ya donelsey...well i cant afford a lawyer, thats for sure.
but ill give it a shot and fill out the paper work, then i understand i just need my doctor to sign it? or fill out something? i havent spoken to my doctor about it yet, hope he has no problems filling out the paper work. guess the worse thing that can happen is i get denied...its still kinda embarrassing applying for it,but ima give it a shot...like i asked..im just not to osure how bad/severe my P has to be in order to get it..i know theres some people with P and they get disability..but thatsa just from what ive read on here, not personally.

Don't go insane! I know it gets unbearable at times but hang in there. I don't know about Canada, I have been recieving social security for 19 years. You might want to try Soriatane/Acitretin. It's worked for me for five years now. It was given to me by MD. McElvoy at the Mayo clinic. I've suffered with this terror P and P/A since 1982. This med is expensive, $1200 per month here in the states. You are lucky though you live in a progressive country where med costs are reasonable. Please hang in there. you have a new friend. I also spend much time on the net. e-mail me at rjhisout@msn.com my name is Randy I live in Denver Co.

Hiya sun..
Welcome to the boards! I know for a fact you can help someone....we are all here to give and receive help/support. Keep coming to visit....there will be questions asked that you might be able to answer or fellow P sufferers needing encouragement and support - which we can all give since we all understand how down a person can get at times.
Nice to "meet" you :)

Sandy
