I recently applied for disability insurnance from a large insurance copmany, I was turned down because I had a bad case of psoriasis. Has anyone had this done to them?? I was wondering if it was legal.

You can have a Derm submit a medical claim for you. Have you tried that? Best of luck and let us know!

I recently applied for disability insurance....
Hi Barry-Jim, if I understand your question correctly, you applied for disability insurance. You weren't filing a claim? I have tried twice to get disabilty insurance in case something happened and I couldn't work. (this was a few years ago when I owned my own business)..I was turned down both times. They said I was high risk, that there was a high probability that I would become disabled for periods of time due to the P, and as if that wasn't enough, there is always the risk of infection which could result in death..... They were right, grrr... about a year later the P got so bad I lost the business. That disability in-come would have been sooo nice. I've also been turned down twice for social security benifits, I'm 2 points short to qualify and can't work to get those 2 points. I enjoy being a finacial burden to my family. Not really but that's what I feel like. Hang in there!

I do have some small patches of psoriasis on my face, and am certainly not grateful for forced circumcision and the resulting affected area. My spouse's good health insurance and Enbrel have been instrumental in keeping my case of psoriasis mostly in remission. Untreated, I get noticeably bad nails. I do not have enlarged digits nor an abnormal amount of arthritis for my age (35).
My dysthymia (chronic, mild depression) probably exacerbates my psoriasis, and the psoriasis worsens my dysthymia. It is a negative psychophysiological feedback loop. Fortunately, I recently overcame my caffeine addiction that disrupts sleep patterns and exacerbates symptoms of stress and depression.
While recently applying for life and disability insurance, I stupidly volunteered that I have psoriasis with possible arthritis. I was rejected based upon my words, not a doctor's assessment. I applied with another company and they asked if I had ever been rejected for insurance. I was rejected again not because of their assessment of my records, but because of my previous naive honesty. Be careful what you volunteer to insurance companies.
I want to be able to provide for my family in the event that I die prematurely or ever become disabled for any reason. I would accept insurance that provided coverage for any non-preexisting condition, but I have not found that yet. I am looking for life and disability insurance from the same provider.
I will try contacting Joey for advice.

They can reject you for any reason....they have been getting killed with auto-immune diseases. Too bad they saw the rash. You could have said that you did not have the disease and wait out the two years.
