This is sort of complicated, so let me explain. I am disabled and get SSI, a federal program. I live in CA, which gives people on that program medical coverage under a state program called Medi-Cal.

As for my psoriasis, no private dermatologists accept it (usually) so I had to go to the public county clinic, which offered cortisone cream and methotrexate. Period. Luckily, one local derm decided to take Medi-Cal patients when the county closed it's derm clinic, so I got in. The photo treatments cleared about half my psoriasis. When I start missing my twice weekly sessions my P starts to spread.

I am thinking of moving to FL or TX, but I'm worried about medical coverage. Are any of you in TX or FL on SSI? Do you get any medical coverage? Does it cover P treatments like photo therapy? I will be living on $550 a month, so I won't be able to afford the topical creams, let alone light treatments. And without them my P will spread like wildfire.

Thanks,
Cheri

Hi Sheri,

Welcome to the board. I'm not on SSI, but just wanted to chime in a hello from Florida.

Hope you get some answers.

Hi Cheri,
you mentioned you were disabled and you were getting ssi shouldnt you be getting ssdi there is a difference. i live in florida and have now applied for ssdi no answer yet but they wont give me ssi cause they told me i was disabled. as far as i know you should have been able to receive medi-care which is a federal funded program not a state, medi-caid is a state funded program.
as i get any new information i will add to this post i moved to florida and my p just loves it the sunshine and gulf water does it justice plus it is a cheaper place to survive. goodluck in all your indevers if the lord leads you to it - the lord will lead you thru it. arty
