Nail psoriasis
Who has it?
I have seen some pictures and it looks really bad. I need to know what it looked like when it first started.
My index finger is badly deformed with Osteoarthritis. Now at the cuticle, I have a place that looks like a bad bruise. Some is still under the skin and some on the nail. No pitting like I have read about. It was sore at first, now it's not. It started about 2 weeks ago. Does this sound like nail P starting?
I don't think that I hurt my finger enought to make a bruise like this. I will see my doc. after the New Year.
Thanks,
Granny

nail psoriasis
I have had nail P for over 10 years, fingernails and toenails. It usually starts with discolorations (sort of light brown to brown) under the nail with dark specks (blood vessels). The P plaques under the nail grow much faster than the nail and can be painful. I started Enbrel in 5/04 for PA and saw a tremendous improvement in my nails (all nails cleared within a few months) and my PA also. I switched to Raptiva in 6/04 to try and help the plaques. My nail P and PA came back as bad as ever. I'm going to switch back to Enbrel at the beginning of the year.

My nail P started as white areas under my nails and then the pitting started. If I don't do my nails, they look strange because of the pitting and white spots. Also, when it started, it hurt really bad.

Hi vrichmd and Sue,
Thanks, my finger looks bruised, doesn't hurt or itch. I think it might be damage from the arthritis. My knuckle has just started swelling again.
vrichmd,
I noticed this is your first message here. Let me say welcome and I'm glad you have found us. I am sorry for the reason you have joined us. There is a lot to learn and some wonderful people here.

Thanks for the welcome, Granny.
I got my first plaques at 21, first in my scalp and then one in my belly button. It progressed over the years to include nail P and PA. Before I started Enbrel 1-1/2 years ago, I was covered from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet with plaque and erythrodermic P. I didn't realize I had PA until I started on Enbrel and the stiffness in my back and finger joints was gone. I've been on Raptiva about 6 mos. and am switching back to Enbrel in Jan. (new insurance).
Merry Christmas,

Hi Van,
Karen sent me a picture of her nails. Mine does not look like that. I will get to the doctor and go from there. I believe it is damage from the osteoarthritis. The joint on that finger is so bad and just got worse. I think it has damaged the cuticle. We'll see.
I have the pustular p and have tried almost everything.
