Write a letter to the editorHave you heard of people writing a
"letter to the editor"?

People can write a letter to the editor of their local newspaper about something that is important to them. You can write a letter to the editor about psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and the need to find a cure as soon as possible. This could help people in your community become more aware of psoriasis.

Not too sure how to get started? Use the sample letter below as a guide. Be sure to take a minute or two to add something personal about yourself!

Dear Editor,

As a young person in this community, I think it is time to raise awareness about psoriasis. Psoriasis is the most common autoimmune disease in the U.S.—as many as 7.5 million Americans have it. Kids and adults living with this disease often face discrimination in public places because others fear psoriasis is contagious. It's not.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease of the skin where the immune system causes skin cells to reproduce too quickly. No one is sure what exactly causes psoriasis, but scientists agree that it is a genetic disease. Psoriasis is not a contagious disease and there is no cure for psoriasis.

I encourage everyone who has psoriasis to join me and thousands of others along with the National Psoriasis Foundation, in raising awareness that psoriasis is a serious disease that deserves serious attention. We need to find a cure. Go to www.psoriasis.org to help us find a cure.

Sincerely,
